man that one ugly sierra, bad respray, lots of filler and rust

The front seems to be missing indicators, and the back...not sure, is it the "filler"panel (black plastic?) and numberplate?

I expect its an ex Hong Kong car missing some bits - in particular the rear lights seem to have been 'chopped', the front headlights look a bit suspect as well.I guess it was just a case of keeping it on the road despite the lack of proper parts, which the Cubans in particular are past masters at. It's much harder to do with a 1980s design than a 1950s one though!

I agree with the above, I bet it'll have come from Hong Kong. Might even be ex-plod, they used some European Fords as police vehicles there.

Yeah, but...it's LHD. My betting's it is an ex-European embassy car.I think Ford stayed out of the PRC in the 80s (are they even involved now?), I'm pretty sure it was just VW in those days, perhaps Chrysler too with the Jeep Cherokee.

I have an article from an old Seventies copy of MOTOR or Autocar (not sure which), telling of how Ford have had to shorten the width of the MK3 Cortina for the Chinese market. Article is essentially a side by side (UK spec/Chinese spec) of two cortinas and comparing the difference. I think they took an inch or so from down the centre of the bodyshell.Vin

Allegedly, the Cortinas were narrowed by squeezing the arches together.......however, I'm not absolutely sure this is a fact...It could have been an April Fool!

That's a TX1. We have them in England. Millions of them. They were the FX4's replacement...

'Tis true - it's in a Ford book somewhere I read - but it was for the Japanese market, not the Chinese. The Japs tax on width (as well as other factors), and the Mk3 was just a little too wide. Apparently those that "sprang back" were recycled for UK market consumption...Although, in a Mk3 vein, the HK fuzz did use 'em. There's one in that Clouseau film car chase on HK, when the Merc limo jumps onto a boat.

Hong Kong police had Escorts, Transits and Cortinas of various generations, I've seen several in early Jackie Chan movies.Taiwan police had them too.

Ah well it had all changed - apart from the Transits by the 1990's when I lived in HK....

They had Leyland DAF's in 1995/96 when I was there!

I was living on Chek Lap Kok and then off to Sunny Tuen Mun at that point in time :P

That's exactly what happened with the Estima/Lucida. There are two different versions which come in different sizes, one is 4 or so inches longer (or wider) than the other.Apologies for lack of any accuracy or technical description.

Eh? I have seen loads with both Lucida and Estima badges on them. That said they do look skinnier than UK-market Previas. All of them are shat head-gasket-eating twatmobiles, so let's not dwell too long.

Oh I didn't realise that - saying that, I knew a family that had a 400,000 mile (4WD) Previa that still drove very well - although the sliding door was a bit dodgy if you opened it too far...
