Trigger's Stonking Spots - Loads of bits

Recommended Posts

I know that dealership near Clacton, they also have a Mitsubishi unCharismatic and PT Cruiser with graffiti all over them to "attract customers to the dealership". If it wasn't for the graffiti, (and the fact that they were a Mitsubishi unCharismatic and a PT Cruiser) they'd have been quite nice cars.

EDIT:- Just found the PT in the thread. N00B alert and all that.

I assume you're local-ish to me. Frinton-On-Sea posse!

Ah Another Yokel!, I'm in Ipswich but from Colchester so i spend a lot of my time in that area still, The whole of the Clacton area is excellent for shite spotting though.

So do you live inside the gates then?.

So do you live inside the gates then?.

Ha, no, I don't think I have the right paperwork and evidence of heraldic ancestry to live there, I'm outside the gates where it's still possible to find a house for less than £500k...

I "work" in Colch, though.

lol!, I've just been reading your blog, It makes for a intresting read, Where do you get your cars from that you test?, I'm guessing that you must work for a main dealer in town? Maybe Westside Merc or what ever they are called?.

Posted
...you must work for a main dealer in town? Maybe *redacted* or what ever they are called?.

I couldn't possibly comment!... Yep, mostly they're part-exchanges that come in. I just enjoy driving various cars and writing about what they're like. It's usually much more interesting than the new stuff we sell. The only perk of the job, to be honest.

Posted

It was the same for me, I used to work for a bodyshop in Copford, one of the big perks was collecting the customers cars from around town, Mostly main dealers part exs and smaller garages trade ins, I must of drove over 1000 cars in the 4 year i worked there after pasting my test.

Oh and your the second memeber on here i know of who works for a Mercedes main dealer, Strange you all come to a site about shite cars!

That can only be a coincidence. I have the greatest belief in the A160, where else can you buy a small, 95hp hatchback with plastic wheeltrims for £21k?

They descended to shite level pretty quickly! Even the ones with the Lotus badges, designed by people who know what a curved line is.

Haha, that Jag... boot and filler cap look very shonky. GR8 PL8 as well.

This afternoon whilst out in the Escort i popped into oldford's place of work, He works at a local garage which was once a Skoda dealers and now a Daihatsu one i think, Anyway in the garage showroom is a selection of old cars on display, I've took a few very crap camera phone photos of them.

1995 Skoda Felicia 1.3 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This Felicia has only 120 odd mile son the clock, It was bought as a birthday present by the father of the 1st owner who being a male wouldn't drive it so it spend it's life in the garage, It still smells like new inside and has never had a radio fitted.

1954 Morris Minor by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This old girl has only 28000 miles on the clock, I'm sure the i read about it in the local rag once, i think the story was that it had been sold by the garage when it was new and they have now bought it back for display, I'm sure John will confirm this or not.

After i left the garage (they also have a lovely Mk 1 Granada GXL and a 1981 Datsun of some kind in storage as well) i popped into the Co-op, this place always has something of interest in the car park, today was no exception.

I saw that Jag in Southend Hospital's car park in 2007 (as a dog-person, how could I forget that number plate?). It looked exactly the same as it does now :)

I’d be interested to know about the Datsun they have.

My sister bought her Mk4 Escort from Cattermoles years ago, maybe 1994? Seemed good people to deal with, excellent that they have an interest in older cars. I walked past many times from 1989-92, en-route from Surrey Road to Hollywoods for a Monday night’s clubbing. Dad had a sunroof fitted to his Guilietta in 1981 at the trim place nextdoor, never quite sure if they were part of Cattermoles or not?

Posted

You should pop in Nigel, John's a nice guy and will show you around, I think the Datsun was a Bluebird, it had a sheet over it so it was hard to tell, It looked like this but Gold.

1980_Datsun_Bluebird.jpg

It seemed in very good condition though.

Posted

you should see the datsun in my workshop, your camera will shit its lense out in disgust!

Posted

Never mind bloody Datsuns, where's the pic of the Granada GXL???????????? C'mon Trigger, you're letting me down here boy! It should look something like this...

100_1340-vi.jpg

I know, any excuse...

Posted

Lol! It was very much like yours but in white.

It belongs to the garage owner and was hidden up away from the public so i wasn't sure if i'd be allowed to photograph it or not.

Posted

I think that the Datsun may be a Nissan and could possibly have six cylinders, I'll take a look tomorrow.

I found some pics of the Granada, I beleive that the wheels and cloth seats were specified as options.

It was good, having you drop by, even if you did have to witness a little car bumping.

I can recommend the windscreen place, with whom we share a site with. Most of the staff have had a lifetime in the trade and they quite often get some intersting cars in for work. I can recall three MK1 Granadas from last year, 2 for vinyl roofs and one for some screen mouldings, one of which was a Perana which coincidentally enough belonged to someone who not only worked at the garage up the road but I went to school with him and hadn't seen him for at least 20 years. Recently they've had a Dolomite, Corsair, MK 1 Lotus Cortina and some old Minis in for either glass or headlining work.

Spottedlaurel, if you're down this way pop in, though sometimes I may be out, if you let me know in advance I can make sure that I'll be there.

Posted

Hmm.. That car was deffo a Datsun, the plate was something like COO ***X, it looked like the Bluebird but was longer. I wonder if it's a 300C?

Don't worry about the bumping, that's the best thing to do to a Rover 620i and a Fiat Punto TD!

Posted

could it be a atsun 260c, they look american, dog shit brown with wood panelling.

the son of a dat in my workshop is a 260z 2 seater, its crawling with rot

Posted

Oldford, thank you, that's a treat! I was about to say something like "damn, I'm missing the Automatic badge off the boot" but then I remembered*, mine has the gearbox no Granada should have been allowed out with. Bugger. Think I need to look for a new trim for the clock panel though, mine has no woodgrain left, if it ever had any!

*I haven't driven it for a couple of weeks :( but soon, I hope... How the hell can you forget what gearbox you have? I must be getting old...

Bit of a update for you guys tonight, This afternoon i went for a drive to Clacton and Jaywick in my Escort, this is the shite car mecca of East Anglia i think and your always likely to spot something of interest.
