Been trying to dry the boot out in mine, it’s not leaking apart from the stupid design that pisses water everywhere when you open the tailgate. I’ve been carrying a lot of damp timber in mine lately either that or something has spilt, anyway pulled it all out to dry it on the radiators.

It is a stupid design on the hatch, yeah.

You can buy a couple of rubber deflector things, if you’re arsed - or just wait a few seconds, before sticking your head under.

I reduced the water ingress (for a while, at least) by sticking a length of 90° plastic trim from B&Q either side of the window. It worked for as long as they stayed put, but Sticky fixers aren't the thing to use there. I might try Tiger Seal if I find where I put the bit of plastic.

But an estate. That’s the permanent fix.

Sorted the headlights on my dad’s car.

I had the bulb caps on the wrong sides. It has an HID conversion and where it’s been hole sawed for the grommet, is right where it says LH and RH. So I never noticed.

Lights slipped in in seconds - as they always have on these cars - when the correct caps were fitted. 😬

My mate brought his twin over today and I serviced it.

Also picked up some 19" Focus ST wheels to keep my diamond cut originals in perfect condition.

The ST wheel and tyre specs are identical and I have left my spacers on. Black wouldn't have been my first choice, but at £480 with 600 mile old tyres the wheels themselves being only a few months old and in immaculate, factory painted condition, given they sell for twice as much as I paid, the lack of winter tyres on the winter wheels seemed trivial. 😂

No idea. Never needed for a 2.0 140 or 2.2 200. this 2.0 163 is to the side of the alternator. Daft placement.

Same as mine, 2.0 163.. I did a lot of swearing too..

I don't have such fancy tools. But I had a feeling they would exist.

Neither did I, its a pic I found after using what I had, and thought there has to be an easier way!

IIRC that comes up for DPF related stuff.

It's not the EML, as you will know. You're best off downloading Forscan, if you don't already have it.

It's something I've been meaning to do, just not got round to it. I've found a way to get into the hidden menus, to look at stored fault codes - but seeing as turning it off and on again clears the apparent fault, no codes are listed. Done another 100 miles since with no more limp home mode, so not losing too much sleep about it at the moment.

My ageing mk4's covid extended test was up at the end of December.

Gave it a check over and an oil change yesterday.

Took off the wheels and power washed all the muck out, the last car (focus) I took in failed on being dirty underneath!

Long story short, it passed.

Must tax it now.

Does anyone else have this bother?

Too cold to be stripping down brittle, plastic parts atm.
I wonder if de-icer will do as a temporary bodge, to unfreeze the damn things, when it happens. Like at -2 last night.

Yes... I blasted the locks with a load of penetrating fluid, seems to cure it for a few days. I’ll fuck about replacing the lock when weathers better. Mine is the passenger lock that’s playing up.

My passenger front acts up too,a couple of extra presses on the key fob usually gets it to unlock.

Not really a problem, just a slight irritation at times.

I'll live with it.

Never had them freeze up though.

This isn't door lock. It's the door catch.

Unlocks and opens no bother, but just bounces when you try to close it. Due to water running into the latch and freezing it, like in thr video.

It's funny, my mk4 never used to do it, Just this 4.5.

When you say locks, do you mean the barrels?

No the latch, it really wants the panel off and a water repellent spraying over the lock and the cable.

Yep. I don't want to touch them atm, as no doubt the shit plastic will be brittle as fuck.

Could do with a spare key for mine, don’t need a remote key, it has the flip key, just need a normal key that’ll open and start the car. Reckon Timpsons will do them?

Yes. I needed a spare for a 2009 Fiesta and Timpsons did one straight away.

How much was it out of interest?

So which diesel engine is the most reliable in one of these? Of course I'd like the powerful one but in terms of reliability which you you recommend? They seem to come in quite a few sizes and power outputs....

2.0TDCI 140,probably the best in terms of performance, economy, and reliability,it's a PSA unit fitted to lots of various cars.

As JYD says, the 2.0 TDCi 140 is the best all rounder. 2.2 TDCi 200  if you wanna get a move on,

2.0 diesel, wouldn’t discount a 1.8 if it’s had the wet belt done. Either van shit its DMF withis a £700 job so if it’s been done that’s a bonus, for that reason one that’s done 150k might be a better bet than a sub 100k one.

This really isn't a problem any of mine ever suffered with.
