Better rustproofing than OEM there.

Eh? Even Lancia couldn't make glass rust.

I've had rusty glass, although grinding sparks might have been involved.

This 218,000 miles 1.8 petrol MOT failure is happening. These really must rank as about the most unwanted and cheapest cars about these days...

Sedness. Makes mine rarer though, so at least 8% more valuable on the open market!

What did it fail the test on?

There is a specialist breaker in the west country called TCB parts (http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/) who might pay a premium for its carcass?

Posted

Cheers, might message them. It failed in some part of the exhaust, ABS light on, emissions, rear shocks and a couple of other things, oh one was clutch master cylinder leaking I think.

It was absurdly cheap to be honest so any yard offer will probably get it.

Thats pretty comprehensive! Good luck on getting decent coin for its remains, I don't think there is anything I need right now (famous last words) before it goes.

I prefer this model Celica to the angular one that replaced it.

Having just leathered my one home from portsmouth they can be a lot of fun, even the 'lowly' 1.8ST ones. The fact this has done 220k says a lot about how well they were built.

Right, times are changing. Due to my own laziness/recent circumstances, this has happened...

...and the Escort van will be following the black Focus 'Collection' to the yard, possibly the white 'Collection' too (both not pictured), plus a Corsa if I get the engine out of it first. Plan is to keep both ST170s (above), the ST220, both Pumas and this ridiculous eBay car that hasn't arrived yet.

Posted

Sadly, the daft eBay purchase is off. The seller says he had it on the back of his truck, the winch locked on and by trying to remove it it's knackered the sill.

Well, getting the bumpers off the black one was fun*. Luckily I had a wood saw, a hammer, screwdrivers and sockets. But mostly hammer and screwdriver. Also the stupid thing won't start now, so had to put a good battery on it and keep turning the key when in first gear to get it out. Absolute bastard of a job like, but got there in the end...

Puma Thunder was a bit of a bastard, bonnet catch was playing up, then it nearly grounded itself coming out. The dark grey ST is really shit to be honest, but it limped out of the garden ok.

Escort van had properly dug itself in, and even though the battery was mintola and it starts first time, it wasn't powerful enough to get out of the hole it'd created. Cue tow rope over the spring, out of gear, handbrake off, wheel locked over and towed it to the top by myself with the Transit...

Van and black 'Collection' getting sacked off very soon.

140cc pit bike engine in it and that POS is worth about a grand looking at ebay!

Carefully considering all previous advice, warning bells and the last of the marbles, today was the day. The day I bought a bad example of an awful car. This bad example of an awful car, to be exact...

You can shove your diesel right up your council, it's a 3.7 petrol. The small* problem (and the reason for much cheapness) was that it 'makes a strange sound, like one of the driveshafts is trying to come loose, but if you power out of it, it goes away'. Which to be fair is true, plus it only seems to do it at very low speeds. His theory was if one of the drive shaft things has a worn bearing, when you boot the car, it sort of presses the shaft in more due to the force. God knows, but besides feeling quite wallowy/barge like, if you double tap the tiptronic box the car doesn't half motor.

Not very good at maths, but if calculations correct, a year's RFL equates to about 66% of the purchase price.

Truthfully, no idea. I think it's 2003. (Private plate wanker)
