I'd go further than that, I'd call it very nice :)

I'm from Hull (not there at present).

I have a diesel Rover 75.

I can't justify a 3.0 Jag at the moment :(

I won't be able to either Roverageous, not from the end of June, sadly. But.. onwards and upwards.

I do like the facelift interior.

Hopefully it’ll sell easily Chris, at least before pay day next Friday so I don’t have to buy it myself...

Thanks John,

The chap with the 75 did mention it has an oil leak, this is factory fitted for the 2.0 Diesel isnt it?

Shouldn't be...

The diesels I've had have been bone dry. Could be blocked PCV system blowing oil out of somewhere?

Mine has an oil leak, I think its high up but I havent really investigated it. The front and side of the engine are damp with oil but it only leaves a few drips on the ground so I am not bothered.

The oil cooler can leak and if a boost hose is perished it can spray a bit of oil.

Unless its lashing out I wouldnt worry.

PCV filter should be first on the list to change if it hasnt been done.

The M47 is supposed to be a decent and strong lump. Timing chain issues are almost unheard of and the DMF rarely needs changing. HGF is literally non existent as far as I have read too.

Get it bought!

That will be the M47 BMW sourced 2.0 diesel. I had one that was on 285,000 and the engine was absolutely fine - just the rest of the car that was shabby! No DPF or swirl flaps or associated gubbins to worry about either.

I'd bet it's 135hp which is adequate but one of the Rover chaps can breathe on it to make it 160hp - my diesel auto is running that and it's great. Drives like a modern (well, it is a modern really).

The autobox is a jatco unit and while not the smoothest in the diesel application (it's absolutely fine though - just not as refined as the same box in the petrol variants) it's a strong box. Do get the fluid changed if nothing else - it will make it smoother if it's never been done. I did have to have mine rebuilt, but that was due to a previous owner using the wrong fluid in the gearbox! If you do change it, there's quite a specific procedure on getting it changed properly all available on the club website.

Powertrain aside, the things you need to keep on top of are plenum drains (drains get blocked, ECU gets waterlogged and then ££££ to sort out - easily preventable). Any clunking from the front suspension when turning at low speeds will be the top mounts - not expensive. They have an appetite for drop links, this can sound absolutely horrendous when they need attention but easily fixed at about £65 a side fitted.

Tourers can leak into the book around the split tailgate. I believe the glass is NLA at the moment, but there seems to be interest on the forums around getting some manufactured. Should be plenty in breakers though should you need it.

Dad was looking at a light blue diesel tourer recently (he's based in N.Ferriby) that was on eBay. Wonder if its the same car...

Anything you need to know there's plenty of expertise with these on Autoshite. I've used them almost exclusively from 2011 to now - they're not a scary car to run at all. I've never been stranded by one!

NEWS:

Went to see Possible Rover 75,....

Verdict.

It's Fucked Jim.

Scrap it m8. Was ticking over when I got there... good job I checked the oil, lets just say I got covered - So much pressure through the dipstick filler neck I got covered as did the rest of the road. Also had no coolant.

Walk away!!

So, Has anyone got a 75 Tourer that isnt going to cover me in oil?

lol

Oh dear, that's not good! What were we saying about ducked PCV systems...

Although the header tank is incredibly small on these, it doesn't take a look for it to look empty. The max tab is actually a long way down.

Doesn't sound great at all though.

I don't blame you! Gut instinct is best to follow in these situations!

Always had a soft spot for these Jags. The potential hidden rust always scared me from even considering one. Yours looks tempting.

That Rover in Rotherham illustrates what I say about 75's. A nice one with decent spec and a new clutch and test for £650. At that money run it until it goes bang and start again.

There's no rust on the sills, or there wasnt in Jan when it went in for MOT.

If I could get a year out of one I'd be happy

Rotherham is only up road from me. Tempted!

Which one is it? Link?

Found it.....

If someone wants to go get it - You can have the Jag! The 75 has a full MOT so id do a straight swap!

It doesnt sound like it was well loved tbh but if it was very cheap you could gamble. The M47 is strong and a PCV and oil filter service should see it good.

They can have mystery starting issues though so turning up to find it running is a definite red flag.

Plenty more out there though.

No luck as of yet,

I might have to try the dreaded Gumtree to punt the Jag.
