I had a course at work today and managed to get finished early, so have just been and weighed the megane in :) R9UKE, I tried removing the headlight but I think the bumper needs t come off to get at the bolts so I've failed you on that score i'm afraid, sorry!

Also, i have given the new focus a good hoovering and cleaning, and it's looking much better. Just need to get some proper profile front tyres for it as my mate I bought it off ordered the wrong ones when he changed them

I've just been and got some new wiper blades to lob on it, I might see if I can get another steering wheel too as this has gone all 'sticky'

Several years ago my Dad bought a brand new Land Rover (D701 SWL) for my Mums birthday and also because he was so impressed with a massai red one owned by his friend.

This car is off the road now.

The enquiry is complete.

The vehicle details for D701 SWL are:

Date of Liability 29 03 2011

Date of First Registration 17 06 1987

Year of Manufacture 1987

Cylinder Capacity (cc) 3528cc

CO2 Emissions Not Available

Fuel Type PETROL

Export Marker N

Vehicle Status Unlicensed

Vehicle Colour BLUE

Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate

Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle

6 Months Rate £121.00

12 Months Rate £220.00

I would like the people of Autoshite to track it down.

My Dad has recently died but if anyone has a brand new Land Rover with the registration D701 SWL please get in touch as my dad would like to buy it new for my Mums birthday and also because he was so impressed with a massai red one owned by his friend..

Please help.

For some reason it's mentioned in B*llox's tat blog on RR as being purchased by Lankytim last year.

Search the page for BRAND NEW Landrover D701SWL

You might want to type D701 SWL into the search bar at the top of this forum ;)

Yes. Somebody signed up and posted a thread pretty much identical to Mr Imp's post above. The OP was never seen again and it became a bit of an Autoshite meme.

I have been utterly offended today by everyone on Autoshite and have reported you all to the rozzers!

I have also blocked you all but it has made the forum rather boring as all I can read are my own posts!

I've been so offended by my own posts I've blocked myself and reported myself to the coast guard.

I am so offended I am thinking about starting my own forum where I can near enough be on my own.

Picked up Mungbean the Mondeo today, finally, and it's all right for a £450 ex taxi with 183k on the clock. Ok it's missing 2 wheel trims (and the 2 it's got are odd), the rear washers don't work and the front only seem to work below 20mph for some reason, but apart from that it all seems to work as it should and drives well with the only sign of loosness being in the indicator stalk, which is odd as most taxi drivers don't use them...

I'll post some pics when it stops raining long enough....

Having lost enthusiasm for the car and just wanting it out of the way, it seems like the best way to get back into a project is to advertise it for sale - no sooner had I done so then I accidentally fixed the dead fuel gauge, at long last two tidy front doors popped up on PNG in the right colour, a low mileage distributor was been procured from ebay for a sensible price, two new handbrake cables are on order and the welding repairs are resplendent in their fresh coats of primer.

If I keep this up it's going to be pretty much faultless soon. Or so I can dream.

The Fregate has gone to London today for a starring role in a film (or so they said) 400 quid in my pocket and they want to re-trim it for me as well !! Hopefully it comes back in one piece. At least this lot have paid up front unlike the last time I got involved in any film work almost a year ago and I am still waiting for the expences cheque

I have mixed emotions about successfully selling the Polo, my motoring companion for over a decade. I took the deposit last night and the balance is to be paid on collection. Some bits I'm keeping 'just in case' but the majority will be going to pastures new to, apparently, become a 1.3 Polo van which is not a bad thing. Of course, once he's gone I have no control over his fate.

Part of me is happy to be free of the responsibility, but an equally large part of me is disappointed that my circumstances have not allowed me to see the project through to the end.

But hey, I still have the crusty old BL tat, so it could be worse, right? Right?

What's PNG, if you don't mind me asking?

Selling a much loved car is always horrible Volksangyl, but if you're lucky, it'll be like my Mk1 BX estate, where the new owner hits it with a fresh burst of enthusiasm (and money!) and then you get the buzz from a restoration that someone else has carried out! You win some you lose some, but if you don't sell cars, you end up being one of those mad people who has cars rotting on their driveway and tells nosey spotters to piss off because "I'm going to restore it one day." (with apologies to any mad people reading this).

Performance Nova Group - I'd never heard of it but Cavcraft of this parish recommended keeping an eye out there for spares, part of the forum is dedicated to parts and cars for sale and I spotted a bloke breaking a red 4 door saloon.

I've got winter tyres on the BX and can confirm that there is a noise increase, especially when cornering. Doesn't intrude too much though. Haven't had wintry enough weather to test the actual winteryness of them yet though. A Merc Sprinter I drive with winter tyres on positively howls!

Going from summer to winter tyres, I was astonished at how much the grip was improved, even when it was milder. Guess the old tyres must have been pretty rubbish.

Seeing the car rot away on the drive would have upset me far more than selling him whole to someone with a plan, time will tell if I've made the right decision keeping the Princess instead.

I recently obtained this number plate lamp on the bay of e for the Maestro. One screw is seized and will need drilling out, but other than that it's all there.

Question is, what have I bought? The vendor didn't know what car/van/boat it was for and neither do I. Curiosity has the better of me.

Black painted steel case with rivets, white painted interior and clear plastic lens. Contains a normal single incandescent bulb. The mark on the lens is illegible and there are no marks on the outer casing to give away who made it. Measures approximately 7" by 2 1/4"

Looks older than it should be for a Maestro and I'd suggest that's probably off a car no newer than early eighties, purely because it looks like it wouldn't suit a car with plastic bumpers.

Meanwhile the 306 is still being a wanker to start when cold. Replaced the fuel filter just now in case traces of veg oil were in there, as it's only run on diesel the last couple of hundred miles or so and I was hoping it would have flushed the veg out by now. I had added a smidgeon of petrol in recently too hoping to thin it out a bit but as yet no avail.

Next job is heater plugs, not entirely convinced it'll make a massive difference as it used to start well if it wasn't on veg oil, but they're only about £5.00 something each so worth a try.

That said one or two of them look like an absolute bastard of a job to change due to their location, especially the one just behind the fuel pump.

The one behind the pump often gets left, so it's almost certainly dud. In my experience a diesel car will start fine with one plug down but won't start at all when the second one goes.

Thanks, Richard. Hopefully my lad can get it out, it looks like the manifold 'thing' is going to have to come off anyway.

Aye. I did that on my mate Joanne's 306, and it worked a treat. Some other twat told her the fuel pump had gone.

From the Interwebz

"You will need a 3/8 drive ratchet and 6 inch extension bar, 10mm socket, a 8mm socket, a 12mm long reach socket, a universal joint, a set of Allen keys, a new inter-cooler to manifold gasket, thread lock liquid (Locktite) and a flat blade screwdriver. The inter-cooler lies across the top of the engine and has to be removed for access. Make sure the engine is cold. Undo the two 10mm screws (front) and 3 Allen screws (rear) from the inter-cooler. loosen the large jubilee clip and pull the inter-cooler off the large rubber hose. Flip the inter-cooler forward so it lies on top of the radiator filler. There is no need to remove the thin pipe. The glow plugs sit in a line behind the fuel pump and dipstick holder. They are wired together and there is a feed wire. Using the 8mm socket, extension and universal as necessary remove the nuts and wires from the glow plugs. Note glow plug 3rd from the left (facing) has the wire that connects the four together and the feed wire connected to it. With the 12mm long reach socket, extension and universal as necessary remove and replace the glow plugs one by one. Refit the wiring and, using thread-lock on the Allen screws, replace the inter-cooler, replacing the gasket as you go. Note: the longer Allen screw goes nearest the battery. Ensure the jubilee clip is tight. Clear all tools away. Start the car."

From memory, this is (broadly) what I did.

"That's odd. When I drop the rear seats in the BX and remove the parcel shelf, I can really hear the exhaust note."

"Ah, that explains it!" Only serious corrosion I've found on this car so far though, and I'd spotted it when I was checking it over to buy. Should be a simple plate job but perhaps needs doing a bit sooner than I first thought!

A 13 mm swan neck spanner is your friend for this job.

Ta muchly, gents.

Andy, it's an N/A diesel so no inter cooler to worry about! My lad phoned before, he's replaced all four and said the one we thought would be the hardest was actually the easiest to come out. This despite the fact it looked like it hadn't been off since God was a lad.

Final verdict: at least one looked burnt out, the others were ancient. Proof of pudding will be trying to start it later on when it's nice and cold!

Today I jacked up Mr B's Austin 1300 and ripped the back axle out with my bare hands. RAAAAAAGH!!!

IT WORKED!

Came home today, car just starting to frost over, turned key, let glow plug light go out and it fired up first crack.
