danthecapriman Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Bloody hell! There’s wiring and shit everywhere! Nice job though Jo, it’ll be well worth it once it’s done your dash isn’t a smashed wreck anymore. Joloke 1

PhilA Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Been there, seen that. Mine had more wires! Glad you got to the bottom of that mystery though. Joloke 1

Marti Works are a little like BL Heritage here but are the gatekeepers to Ford USA archives.Sam got it for me to boost my moral after this pig of a job!Checked up the dealership its still there but sadly no more a Ford Dealership Ironically considering my past car history it no sells Mercedes Benz! How Spooky!Car was sold in LA then travelled 5 Hours up the coast to Sacremento where it stayed until last year when It made the trip to blighty Most notable on the list was there were only 110 made with that colour paint and that interior together, after 43 years I wonder how many of those survive? Very cool. I wonder if they can do Mercury too, technically being a Ford still? Just shows you how vast the USA is, travelling 5 hours and yet your still inside the same state! eddyramrod and Joloke 2
PhilA Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Yup, and California isn't really a "big" state either. It's a 27 hour drive from here to L.A., service before setting out, and by the time my car would get there it's due an oil change. Phil danthecapriman and Joloke 2

Imagine back in the good old days you could travel in your big Yank on business from state to state. With the mileage so easy to rack up you’d need places to quickly do an oil service while your out and about. Mind you a basic search is just $18 but you need to do the delux at $40 to get dealer informationI’ve still got my original bill of sale for the Mercury. It’d be nice to have got the bit you have though with ‘your car is 1 of xxx with xxx’ Shep Shepherd, Skizzer, PhilA and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Leave here, drive to I-10, leave I-10 at the beach where you can't go any further because Pacific ocean... And that's at 60-70mph all the way. Phil Joloke and danthecapriman 2

I know it’s just driving but it’d be a fantastic experience.Fly into LA (or similar) buy rot free Yank then drive! Get to the sea at the other end then load it onto a ship and take it home!Going from LA across and up to New York would do me perfectly. Basically cutting straight across the middle of the US. eddyramrod and Ghosty 2
PhilA Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Wife did it in a Dodge Ram diesel truck On the way back through Texas the water pump housing cracked into 2.. she said it wasn't much fun watching the gauge when it's 35 degrees plus outside and then having to wait for it to cool in that temperature to top up the coolant... Buying something rust free doesn't mean it's mechanically sound, particularly not a California car, the only aspect of the vehicle that really gets tested in CA is emissions. richardthestag and danthecapriman 2

eddyramrod Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Try spraying the spindles with WD or whatever your preference is. If you've still got the straw thing, see if you can direct some spray between the actual spindle and the cap on the end of the arm. Leave for 24 hours, repeat. Leave for 24, have another go at them. JeeExEll Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Found this today Jo when looking for something else. Imperial sized socket / spanner comparison sizes which can often get you out of a fix (ha ha, -not), if the metric nuts or bolts aren't too tight. Joloke 1
drum Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I used a wee hub puller to remove wiper arms from their spindles. egg, Joloke and eddyramrod 3

Thats feels better.............................................. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! So yesterday removeage of the windscreen vents happened Finally we can see the passenger side linkage bracket You can see two of the bolts the third is hidden under the linkage arm, once thats disconnected from the motor you can get access to that one Just not the right hand bolt.......................... Here's another couple of views, note the bracket just to the right No wait its not over yet! So you see that bracket is in two parts................ The bolt sticking out of the rear is in the way of getting a socket in there So you can remove the bolted bit but not until you remove or at least move the bar crossing the bolt (center dash support) So you remove the Bracket and Yah So thats it! Err No!!!! You see the other part of the bracket still fouls your access to the right hand linkage bolt by a few mm You need to angle the ratchet and socket because of the rake of the scuttle and you cant do it because of that sodding bracket! You cant unbolt it there as its rivited to the heater box! So just to get out one bolt the sodding heater box has to be removed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aresoles,Drink,Feck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! put the socket in from right hand side....?????? or am I missing summat??

richardthestag Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 or a brick chisel and big hammer seriously though looks like one of those bendy ratchet spanners might fit where the socket is heading. or a normal spanner and lots of swearing and time Joloke 1

cort1977 Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Carpets are big and heavy, I wouldn't get one from over here as the shipping is killer. Joloke 1
JeeExEll Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Looks like the transmission tunnel carpet is moulded using heat / steam. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bvGRsM5Z2P8
cort1977 Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 I would guess that the floorpan is not a complicated shape and that the carpet was never a very close fit anyway so maybe it would be best to get a new carpet for a similar sized car with a tunnel (Capri?) and use that. I fitted a new carpet to my Pontiac and although it was moulded for the transmission tunnel the rest of it was flat and easy to trim to shape.

danthecapriman Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I doubt it’ll be cheap Jo but I’d be considering getting a new loom made. You seem to have had a few issues electrically and earlier in the thread uncovered some damage too. Maybe the looms just had its day?Trouble is aswell, keep patching it up only works to a point. Joloke 1
richardthestag Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 make up a separate wiper loom, isolate original wires. Happy days Joloke, danthecapriman and eddyramrod 3
