Shitefest 2018 (U.K.) Chez Saabnut 9-10th june

I'm not sure if it's been asked yet or not, but Mr Saabnut, bearing in mind the distance you are from shops, do you have a fridge that could be used for storage of tasty nutritious foodstuffs such as square sausage etc?

I mean, I assume you'd have a fridge in your kitchen, but I mean perhaps another one elsewhere (like some people I know who relegate old but still working fridges out to their garage / shed / whatever for beer storage).

Hello. I'm not dead.

I am somewhat vehicularly limited so I will turn up in whatever is fit.

As an aside I have read that there is some concern about distance from the southerners, so for that reason I plan to leave at 6am as usual, meet Mr Fowler at Abington services, then stop at Tebay for brunch before heading to Aberdeen. That way it'll feel like a day out rather than just a couple of hours up the road.

Or just enjoy it only being a couple of hours up the road and get there nice and early and enjoy being child free? I means it is your special weekend, you normally make the schlep down south every year

We should have shitefest 19 in Cornwall next year, fuck the Scottish over... Smug bastards

Reet, I think my current plan is to head up immediately after I finish work at 14:30 on the Friday.

I'll most likely be taking the Acclaim as the Dolly would need to go via the scenic routes and I'm not entirely sure I trust it. I also plan to acquire a proper 1970s ridge tent...

I just have a fairly large fridge in the house, but also have a couple of freezers with some room in them if that helps. There is a stream through the carpark garden for cooling beers though

Whoever has the wheel trim of joy needs to arrive first really.

The 'Generic Rubbish Vehicle Event' sign is KruJoe's.

I have, being true to form, lost track of whom I have sent direction to Chez Saabnut, so if you are coming and I have not sent instructions to you, post on here or drop me a PM and I will send them to you.

Could I have directions please?

Looks like I am going to be able to come for the full weekend after all. Other half's prior engagement has been called off and my leave request has now been approved :D I will probably bring the caravan so I can take the Legacy for a damn good blat once unhitched ;)

Posted

How about you all invade Barry Cade's new job as a caravan site warden? :D

The Trossacks aren't far past Glasgow...

Which site is that? Trossachs are lovely.

Just remember to take it handy through Dumfriesshire - polis round there are a shower of cunts ;-)

Agreed! Used to live down there.

Mmm fair shout. How stabbed would we get if we had them on as we drove up? Or should we fit them when we reach the safety of the field of dreams 2018?

You probably wouldn't. They'd likely think you were into football.

No idea which site. He sensibly didn't mention any details on the thread about it.

Should I get a random wheel trim from the local scrap yard and make up an extra "Generic Rubbish Vehicle Event" sign?

No, but you could find a 1 month to go gif! I've had a look but their not as good as your ones.

Still waiting to hear about potential meet points en route, unless that's been planned behind closed doors and I should take the hint?

It'd be an excuse for me to actually make my way there. It's not that far either.

It's a bit like Scotland but narrower & more tourists.

I think we need to consider what's generally viable and have a bit more serious discussion while taking on board potential good driving routes that aren't just the M74 or something. I was talking to Hooli yesterday and he seems to have some good ideas about routes through Scotland.

bub2006 also mentioned yesterday that he might not be coming now, something about his wife planning a holiday for his birthday the week after and not being able to justify the expense.

Posted

Yes he told me similar, damn selfish of his missus if you ask me!

Ill wait for a thread to be made then about travel arrangements, surprised we haven't had the yearly sales thread too yet. I'd probably be more leaning towards meeting people on the way but motorwaying up the uk, then nice scenic roads once in Scotland, but I'm mostly easy on all fronts

Posted

I would really like to join the convoy. Happy to meet most places from Glasgow onwards but will have the caravan on the back so I will most likely tag on the end.

Posted

Yes sorry but I've got to drop out. Found out yesterday wife booked a late birthday holiday so I cannot afford the spending over £150 quid on fuel, food etc for shitefes then away week after so it's a no go for me sadly. Sam,offer stands still to stay over though. I was looking forward to exploring Scotland too.

Posted

Cheers bub, depending on how many midlands people are leaving Friday morning I may still come over on Thursday. Don't want to rub your nose in it too much though that your now not coming...

Posted

Like I said mate just can't do it so not rubbing my nose in it!

I still have no idea what I'll be attending in. The 2CV isn't really shitey enough, the Starlet is too tedious, the Invacar is restricted to another meeting in July as its first major outing (and also, just no) and whatever I manage to bring back from the Bulgaria trip will have dubious legality. Mrs DW has offered me the Nippa, but I can't say that's massively appealing either! It is definitely quite shite.

I'm also thinking over my choice of wheels. The Stellar would definitely be the choice of the heart, but assuming I do, do I bring a tent or the little 'camper' trailer (which would restrict me to 60mph)? Or bring the LT, and sleep in comfort, with fridge, running water etc but again it'd be 60-65mph all the way up. The head's choice would be the iLoad - fast, comfortable and I could sleep in the back but that'd be a non-shite choice, as well as putting another 20% of the current mileage on the clock!

Stellar plus tent is the current front runner, but hoping for dry weather on the journey at least...

I'll be limited to 60 with the van on the back so I'll stay at the back of the pack with you :)

I don't think anyone is particularly arsed about ragging it up there. Hell, I've got time (also fuel economy savings).

I going via Bute to pick up my missus, so from there I head off a ferry to the A83/A82 & across the Carngorms probably via Spittle of Glenshee & drop into the shitefest from the north. Works out about 5-6hours riding which is a good day out for us.

Tbh, what with 90% of us having a long drive, what you bring should be swerved towards comfort and fuel economy. I doubt anyone would berate people for using something boring!

And Ghosty, I'm aiming to sit on the motorway at 59mpg for the boring uk bit, we can all regroup then waft on. Hell, put the caravans at the front. It sets the pace, and we can enjoy collectively holding up the traffic!

What you need is a big, six-cylinder van to slipstream. Sorted!

I'll be limited to 60mph by the fact I can't be arsed driving the Acclaim any faster and mpg, yo.

I tow with a 260 brake Subaru which solo does 0-60 in under 6 seconds. The van is a lightweight twin axle which has just had sticky tyres put on it. I don't hold up traffic, trust me ;) Unless you're a twat, in which case I'll be making myself as wide as possible :P

Is a 3ltr 4 cyl Granvia any use as a plan B? ;)
