The test rig exhaust will not be in operation on the finished product

Talking of exhausts, the Saab was making a very faint heatshield sounding rattle as you idled past me earlier... Sounded great otherwise though 👌

Ah, Yeah, the very back heat shield is very loose! Thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten!

Significant collection day! More spent on this than the 2 2CV projects littering my driveway… but…

One rebuilt/reconditioned 652 converted 2CV engine ready to fit.

Apparently 652 requires re-jetting of the carb… so that’s some research to do before fitting!

I've always thought those little twins are things of beauty. Shame to hide it away under a bonnet!

Swapping a 2cv engine in a day should be a fairly straightforward task. I remember driving home from work one mid-week evening, swapping the engine and driving to work the next morning.

The new engine was no better than the old one and the new clutch was faulty 🤷‍♂️

I’m hoping so, apparently it can be done in around 7 minutes by the race teams… so surely I can manage it in a day… maybe…

That day won’t be today due to the need to procure some bits and the fact that the garden needs attention!

In addition… with the lovely weather recently the decision to sell this seems more and more difficult…

But I think the Rustival trip plus the using it a few times to go to work have really squeezed the very last out of the brake discs…

New engine mounts and those top quality exhaust clamps would be top of my list for replacement bits.

Are you based in Wales? Far from Aberdovey?

To be fair the race cars have quick release fittings on the throttle cable, fuel line, wiring and exhaust clamps, and everything is on and off so often that you don't have to face things being seized.

But still, once you have the front panels and wings off, the access is incredible.

If you have a helper it can be a satisfying bit of tinkering and you don't need a crane. Two people lifting the engine out using the exhaust headers as handles, or one person with a strong back.

It's useful to jam a length of box section or wood under the gearbox and above the subframe to keep it from dropping while / after you seperate it from the engine.

Also, a stubby or cut down spanner is useful to get into the bellhousing to engine nuts.

I'd agree that the exhaust is the most annoying bit!

Passing your way in a couple of weeks...

Can't offer much in the way of expertise but sounds like a fun way to spend a day. Happy to come over and lend a hand if you want some help. Will work for a panad (which autocorrect keeps trying to change to panda!).

Even I can get a 2CV engine out within about an hour. I go lazy and just pivot the headlamp bar to one side so you don't have to faff about with disconnecting loads of wires.

Need to get a new engine built myself. Thank goodness engine swaps are easy as I seem to do a lot of them!
