Original RHD UK car, there's only half a dozen or so known by the club. I'll be the forth owner. Got my work cut out!

Looks like your going to be busy!

Going by Michiel guess i take it that it should look something like this when done?

Posted Image

If so, Mega cool!

Posted

Indeed, Michiel guessed the car but not the body type :D The one in your picture is the one we saw at the Enfield Pageant which led me to following up on this one.

Posted

What's the availability on parts like on these?, I know nothing about them.

and i take it that yours will be more this type going by the rear lights.

Posted Image

Is the one above a newer or older model to yours?

Luck - and patience mate.Any important bits missing?

Darn, I was trying to be quick rather than accurate, saw the rear wing + light and thought Isabella... sad? What a find though, fantabulous!

There are a lot of parts coming with it. It was a complete car until the guy stripped it and started on the rust repairs a few years ago. He also bought another rotten car (a TS saloon) and broke that, keeping absolutely anything and everything that might be useful including sections of the floor etc. So I've got two sets of the bolt on panels (except the back door), two complete drivetrains (inc whats on the car) a couple of dashboards, three fuel tanks, two (same colour) interiors, etc. I won't know until I get it all down here quite what is what but I should certainly be able to make a car out of it all. Oh, he;s got complete new floorpan panels too.

I've not yet figured out quite how the trim changed over time. I think many might have had bits swapped about by now too. There's been some work done on parts interchangability with other cars and all the (standard) electrics are 6V Bosch so there's commonality with other old German cars. The guy from the club has told me that some hydraulics can be tricky to get but I think I've got all the core bits so sleeving ought to be possible if necessary.

I'm very jealous and not jealous at all at the same time!

Excellent Seth! Lots like quite a bit of work there but looks sound with little rust, which often causes much more work than orginally expected.

I was chatting a guy on the Borgward club stand at Enfeld - they sound a really quality car, similar to the BMW ethos of sporty quality cars but better made.

Edit: just noticed its got one of those Blaupunkt radios thats probably worth more than the rest of the car!

Nice, nearly enoughto build 2!One giantjigsaw puzzle- marvellous

Looks very much of Seth-mobile! Good luck with it.Will this eventually replace anything else in your fleet? Where does the Farina's resto stand?

Posted

That will be an impossibly cool car. One day. After lots and lots of work. But it'll be worth it.

Posted

Wow. Um, that's about all I can think of to say! I love it. (but am glad you're rebuild it rather than me!)

Posted

Pre-Sethtyeight is coming (to weld all the panels back on).

Posted

Anthony, sadly the radio in that dash is a Radiomobile as I ahd the same thought when I saw it.SL, I've really got to get the Oxford finished before I start doing anything major on this. Its going to be another year or so on the farina I reckon. But in the mean time I ought to sort through all teh Borgward stuff and work out what I have and haven't got and maybe get some bits of it underway. We we're going to keep the Minx once the Oxford was done as its useful having an estate but the Minx would give way to the Isabella when the time comes.Hirst, panels bolt on! or at least the bolt on ones do. I might need to weld a floor in...Cheers, chaps :D

Posted

Wow, even the rear quarter panels? That's ace if so! I'd love a car where you could just whip most of it off with a socket set.

Posted

Nah-floor'll fit with a few clout nails & a spot of wag. Lovely. Just leave the old one on underneath-for a bit more support.

Posted

Hirst, the rear wings are teh same as saloon ones, hence having plenty of spares. A quality bit of design I think! Means you can plainly see just how rust-trap in design the inner wing bits are...

NB, can;t I'm afraid, as the old floor has already been chopped out. S'pose I could just glue the new ones in with No More Nails

I can't believe you has revealed this. I thought I was in a 'secret club'.Still willing to help though. PS: Can I has dibs on the minx wagon please!?

Posted

You were in a secret club of about a dozen indevijewals

Dibs and help duly noted. :D

Gareth, nope, wasn't really looking for it as such so more of taking the opportunity as it arises kinda deal.

Kind of Michiel

In case anyone is bovvered the car and all the bits are now down in London. I spent a couple of hours yesterday evening messing about and got some panels temporarily on so it looks more like a car while I do my best to ignore how much it needs....

I've done the same, stops desperation setting in so easily

My old Tatra 603 had them. Probably not as good as the normal ones you flick open because the Tatra ones needed quite a bit of twiddling.

Nice plate...That could fund the restoration-retrospectively..if needed.Thats what I tell my wife,anyway.

The guy who restored my Wartburg was actually a Brogward restorer! The garage was called "Bremen Motors" and had loads of bits for the cars. If you want details, get in touch!Andrew 353w
