HMC Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 Thanks for the swap offers, I’m under a bit of pressure storage wise so sorry to shift the goal posts a bit- going of a straight sale at £500 Lacquer Peel and The Moog 2
HMC Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 The odd orange tasseled thing I’ve tried to hide in all the shots is the kids dragon kite.
Cavcraft Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 That's an absolute, unadulerated bargain. LightBulbFun 1
wuvvum Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Fudge a duck that's cheap. If only you were closer, &c.
barmatt Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Fudge a duck that's cheap. If only you were closer, &c. Just what I was thinking mate and if I had any spare money.

HMC Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 The merc sprinter camper has found a new home, and today I sold the merc e280 I had last week for what it owed me. That drove lovely and was suprisingly good on fuel for what it was; and for what it was wasn’t too bad rust wise. I collected the e280 replacement this afternoon. Less rust (obviously) More miles, lots and lots of history, drives nicely with a sweet gearchange that reminds me of a carina e I used to have. It has less soft touchiness in the interior and how things open and close etc compared to the Benz. But I suspect Toyota put less emphasis on perceived quality; my gut feeling is this will just keep on keeping on being a Toyota. It certainly feels very competent and bombproof. There’s a strange little fabric pouch in the boot which seems to have toyotas late 90s attempt at sat nav in it Taxi!!!! RobT, Dirk Diggler, mrbenn and 16 others 19
The Moog Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Always liked the look of the estates ... Wouldn't want one but came from the same blobby mould as the scorpio.
HMC Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 Did Einstein state that? If he did, his opinion would gain new credibility as I set out tomorrow on another collection. mrbenn, The Moog, Sigmund Fraud and 3 others 6
bramz7 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I can't compete with your turnover anymore. You truly are the buying and selling king Sigmund Fraud and HMC 2
HMC Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 It’s another w210 estate. Think Einstein may have a point. Do you still have those spheres in the box in the back of yours? I might need them if so! Six-cylinder 1
Matty Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 At this rate I reckon were going to have to stage an intervention of some kind to save your bank managers heart!
HMC Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 Train (and Cadbury buttons/ felt tip on face) achieved Rave, Six-cylinder, jumpingjehovahs and 8 others 11
HMC Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 Got kindly picked up by the vendor at the station, and somewhere in rural Devon...... Dirk Diggler, Six-cylinder, privatewire and 8 others 11
HMC Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 Came back over the moor, it’s done about 90k and had long term giffer owners. It drives well and the rear suspension still works! The interior is really tidy, the body not so much. At 80k and 16 years old (2016) there’s a bill for recovering it because one of the Achilles heel front coil spring perches had rotted and the suspension on that corner collapsed. Piss poor (unsure what that translates to in German) and it’s got the usual wheelarch / boot corrosion. However it was dirt cheap and it’s got full history and 7 months mot so can’t complain. It’s a bit of a dud in the range engine wise- the e240 v6 has about 170bhp. It’s oddly very marginally more thirsty than the 280 (200bhp) and on a par with the e320 (220bhp) and not that far off the e430 thirst wise. At least according to the sales brochures it came with. Yes let’s buy that the stats have won me over. It is geared for 3000rpm at 70 rather than the 280 which is more like 2400 so maybe in an effort to make it less slow they geared away the economy? Maybe it was there to attract company car sales? Dunno. Here it is on Dartmoor..... DVee8, privatewire, gadgetgricey and 18 others 21
The Moog Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 I am now disappointed that more collection threads don't contain button and felt tip on face. I expect Bramz/JimBell to up their buttons/felttipface game. Pillock, Mrs6C, HMC and 2 others 5
HMC Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 Also I hope neither of them has a poo in nappy count (2) The Moog 1
The_Equalizer Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Most impressive. I like the W210 in particular the twin round headlights. It reminds me of the twin headlight or headlight/fog light treatment of 1960s cars such as Rolls-Royce Cloud 3, Jag Mk2, Rover P5B and Alvis TE/TF. The rust doesn't look too bad - we have all seem some really evil ones. I say well bought.
dome Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Nice, looks very similar colour scheme and trim wise as my old 300TD Mr_Bo11ox and HMC 2
HMC Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 Junkman Knew; but to satisfy my curiosity and those who were’nt aware........ Yes, that’s 8 litres of engine oil for a 2.4 litre engine(!) Kringle, Dick Cheeseburger, Lacquer Peel and 4 others 7
dome Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Shit, the 5 and a half litre takes less! For the record my 4.2 S4 takes 9.5 litres and the 4.0 Exploder takes 5.6... HMC 1
HMC Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 That’s crazy, I hadn’t seen that! ^Junkman would have expressed that way better than I!
Ghosty Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 You can live in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTVnMO6cRfg (this is a joke about a Dutch pop song if the preview doesn't load)
HMC Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 An odd problem with the avensis- it suddenly started making a low speed rubbing/graunching noise at the front. It seemed wheel/ driveshaft related as it was unconnected to engine speed and clutch etc. It didn’t stop if you applied the brakes, nor did it change or stop depending on how much lock you applied (I thought maybe an unseen bit of the arch liner was rubbing against the wheel or driveshaft) I was about to jack it up and take a closer look , when I went to loosen the near side wheel nuts, they were all a bit loose! Torqued them up and the noise has gone. It had recently (just before I bought it) had an mot where a cv gaiter had to be replaced so perhaps somebody forgot to torque them up afterwards? Hopefully it hasn’t ovalled the bolt holes. A now silent avensis, earlier. Jim Bell, Sigmund Fraud, RayMK and 4 others 7
HMC Posted April 19, 2019 Author Posted April 19, 2019 It’s 550am, good Friday. For normal people, this is a time they will never see voluntarily. Sir Francis Drake looks on, bemused. Semi-C, worldofceri, Dan_ZTT and 13 others 16
gadgetgricey Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I agree.. Only weirdos would be up this early HMC and The Moog 2
