Late 1980's fuel injection..

So stupidly I decided that what I really need is another W124 Merc for my fleet.  A nice fuel injection one, an estate one, without an MOT, that's not run for 5 years or so, with the smallest engine and no front wheels..

Because when your daily driver has a slipping clutch, and you need it to get to and from work, the best option is to buy more chod right?

I must be ill.

Anyway, I digress.  I've got two W124's now, a 300E saloon that's broken, and now this 200TE that I just got, both are KE-Jetronic and both don't run very well at all.

I strongly suspect that a big reason for this is a gummed up metering head, and issues with the electrickery part.  I'm a VW guy (*ducks for cover*) and as such well versed in K-Jetronic, but the E thing seems to have some other stuff behind it.

Both cars are misfiring.  My 300E had new leads, plugs, cap, arm and so on last year and won't run slightly right, I suspect someone has borked about with the meterheading device and shagged it.

The 200TE runs OK on idle after I'd run some of the old fuel through, but as soon as you accellerate, it spits and splutters and misfires.  I've not checked the arm, cap, leads or anything on this.

For now, I'm more concerned with the 200TE, as that'll be more useful being an estate with a towing device.  Am I right to think that once I've checked the ignition is all tip top, I should replace the pump and filter and if that's still not working cry and curse and spit at it before admiting defeat and buying something equally unsuitable?

I keenly await your responses.

Thrown any injector cleaner though? I think the metering stuff is quite small pipe work so could be all gummed up.

Can you run neat Forte injector cleaner through it by filling the fuel filter or sticking the pipe into the can like you would on a diesel?

Old fuel in K Jet systems is bad news. The tolerances are so fine that any gum etc will just fuck it.

Diaphragm in metering head could also be dried out?

KE-Jet has a lambda sensor doesn't it?

That it does yeah.

And aye, it's a fickle beast that doesn't respond well to cruddy fuel.

I'll do the basics, if that doesn't work I'll bite the bullet and look over it all properly.  I think you can buy rebuild kits for the metering heads reasonably, but the sealant for them takes an age to go off apparently.

Never looked at it.  I assume you can yeah.

I'll attempt to get some images of said beasties done over the weekend and upload them, as they're proper shonkey mc shonks.

The saloon has taken to leaning on the front wheel, I suspect a spring has broken as it's rock solid underneath.

The Estate needs some weldings.  But then it'd not have been cheap if it didn't, and the diff mounts seem in good order, as to the rear window seals, and it's dry inside.

I still have the 'tuning tool'* for K-jets in my tool box.
