Renault 16 not for sale

I have had this 1968 16 I bought 6 years ago I reckon.

Can't see me ever finishing it.

I only have dry storage for 3 cars and I'm not going to pay for more.

Kids and life are taking most of my time. I have a Wolseley in my garage that needs to be finished that I am slowly progressing with but there's a couple of years worth of work in that. That could be for sale at the right price too.

The 16 needed welding when I bought it and that is all now finished. The braking system was totally dismantled when I got it and I couldn't make head nor tail of how it all went together.

Almost three years ago through another 16 enthusiast I found a retired garage owner in Lincolnshire who specialises in 16s so I trailered it down there and asked him to fix the brakes. It turned out most of the bits of braking system that came with the car were not Renault so he replaced the lot, totally new brakes throughout. £600 for that so I told him he may as well carry on and get the engine running right and prepare it for mot. Told him no rush...

Anyway I hadn't heard from him so rang him up a few weeks ago. It turn out that he had lost his wife and was also rather ill himself so he wasn't fixing cars anymore.

So, the end result of this that I need to nip over to Lincs at some point and retrieve my Renault but reality has hit and I do need to get it sold really but before I drag it back and try to flog it, I thought I would mention it first in case any eastern shiters are interested.

So, to recap. It is solid. I put 2 brand new tyres on it. The interior is very good. ( black vinyl) the front wings are tatty but it comes with two new ones. New brakes. Engine sounds sweet but overheats when left ticking over. Two owners from new and done about 80,000 from what I remember.

No pictures as it is nowhere near me. I do have some on SD cards somewhere though.

Delivery to anywhere can be arranged.

Price? It owes me around £1200 so would be nice to get that back if poss

PM if interested

What colour is it? What spec? Manual or auto? Rhd, lhd?

I'd really like to see some pictures if possible. I just missed out on one of these going very cheap so might possibly be interested...

Where in Lincs is it? If your man is ok for me to do so, I'm happy to go and get some pictures of it for you?

Near Spalding. Take some tissues though, he has about ten 16s, a 17 and some others.

I'll contact him this week,

When will it be out of Lincolnshire?

Is it at Mike Stoke's place?

Yes that's the place. I'm in no big rush, will be this year though. Earlier if someone does want it.

Just didn't want to drag it back only for someone in that area to be interested in it!

Drag it via Stockport, please. Or lets try to make some other arrangement.

I will need a bit of time, though.

I mean, you have to be raving bonkers to own an R16.

But two of them?

Did they feed me the wrong stuff when I was a wee lad?

I have to have a serious word with my parents.

I think you should test how much Junkman really wants this by seeing if he is prepared to go to Lincolnshire to pick it up.

I would also like to own this by the way (having missed out on it when Mouseflakes was selling it due to not being able to sort logistics), although at the moment that would mean borrowing some cash, at least until I can sell the CX.  (Or the Innocenti, but no fecker seems to want that,)

I quite like that Innocenti, to be fair. I'm amazed there's no demand for it, it's rather lovely.

I just picked one up from Loxstedt, of all places, not a long time ago.

My need* for Lincolnshiresque pick up locations for R16s is fulfilled, thank you very much.

Nowhere is particularly far away on this tiny island

I'm pretty sure it isn't the distance that's an issue!!

When I bought it off Tim, I saw it on eBay with a few pictures.

I rang him up on an actual telephone and went down to view it a couple of days later with a cash deposit in my pocket. He only lived 100 miles from me.

So if anyone eastern wants to view it, pm me to get my number and arrange a viewing. I'll nip over to Spalding and meet you there.

Anyone nearer me can wait til I drag it back, and view it in Ludlow

This is one of those times when I think I should sell some shitheaps and actually own something nice.

Its not that nice but it could be with some work

I can't be bothered with restoration projects anymore, I just want to tinker with my tidy, running cars when I feel like it.

I could do a part ex on the 16 if that helps anyone. Something boring and easy to sell preferably

No you won't, it is a peach.

However, a 49 year old peach is not necessarily a good thing...

Wow, until I just typed that, I hadn't really thought of it as THAT old!
