The mk2 Capri looks green to me appears to be a 3.0 ghia too.

Yeah probably is. I'm a bit colourblind, I struggle with greens and browns. I think I assumed it was brown because it's from the 70s. Green is even better isn't it?

And possibly has that lush combination of green velour interior too.....

These are great pics, Yoss - some memories there. "Sperrings" shops really pinpoint a period in time to Sotonians! I remember his Rollers with "07" number plate.....

I remember Sperrings. If I've got my timeline right they became Circle K then Alldays then various other convenience store franchises. At the time I took the picture I lived about 5 minutes walk behind where I was stood. I now live about 5 minutes in the opposite direction.

So on the way home from work today I thought I'd stop off and recreate the picture.

Hadn't noticed how much more foliage has popped up over the years. And the road has moved slightly I think. The first picture the bus stop has a layby but no more. There was still a little greengrocers next to Sperrings, that can't have been there long after that picture was taken. And the empty shop was a Post Office which had recently moved into Sperrings. Thats now a Ladbrokes. Thats progress for you.

But Cap'n Cod's is still there! Unfortunately it has shut down. It reopened briefly and now seems to have shut for good which is a pain as I now have to get in the car to get chips. Though I started googling it When it shut to see if I could find anything out and all I found was that their food hygiene rating was only 1 so maybe it was for the best!

I'll have to do another one in another thirty years.

These are all around the Romsey Road/Redbridge Hill junction by The Old Thatch pub which burnt down several times, as I suspect all thatched pubs do at some time, and is no more. Next to that is the BMW dealers which I remember being Scothall but in one picture you can see it is called Quadrafoglio which is an odd name for a BMW garage. Earlier in my childhood I remember it being a Renault dealer (Mann Egerton?) With 12s and 16s in and I got a brochure for the new Renault 18. I was about 12. It then became a Peugeot place and now just sells second hand vans.

Wish I'd got that lorry in. And Babs Cabs behind.

Struggling to make out what that is in the side road in the distance to the left of the RM. Thought it might be a Land Rover going by the white roof but it looks too small. Yeah I know, small/far away and all that but the proportions don't look Land Rover.

London registered Tina. These two may have met before.

The Metro in the background seems to be hitting the roundabout at speed looking at the way it's leaning.

Debenhams is still there but everything else has changed. Even the office block behind is currently being pulled down.

This only has one car in it but I include it because of the lovely Odeon, now long gone of course and replaced with more shops, as if we don't have enough.

A few mainly London area ones.

This one would lead you to believe the British motor industry had nothing to worry about.

But further up the road

post-20743-0-79685400-1511111847_thumb.jpg

Mortlake, Avondale Road. A legendary destination.

Cobham. Another one that suggests our motor industry had a future.

So what is this thing in the bottom left corner. The badge looks like it says Accord but it don't recognise it as one. The vinyl roof and boot spoiler makes it look like an eighties Ford.post-20743-0-50626600-1511111991_thumb.jpg

Two pictures of the same bus from either side of the road. And an SD1 on both sides.

Cricklewood Broadway. Something for everyone here. Who wouldn't want to own any of the stuff in this picture?

And finally something completely different. Barton Park depot, Eastliegh.

^ you may be right, but im not convinced. The tail gate opening looks wrong. I t isnt but it does look very capri like to me...... I shall keep checking in to see if there are any other suggestions....

I think mercrocker is right, the vinyl roof and spoiler make it look different, but the rear window shape seems the same and the chrome strip over the light cluster is just visible at the very bottom edge of the photo.

By coincidence, there is a later model Accord Coupe in the picture of 363CLT working out of Southampton Central Station a couple of posts back.....!

Clarence Parade, Southsea, probably around 1971. It was our annual summer holiday from when I was born until my parents trusted me to stay at home and be able to look after my younger sister without burning the house down.

The mk3 cortina with rostyle wheels is prob a maize yellow GT & if it's 71 would be pretty driven by a wealthy young Jack the lad as it'd be less than a year old.

Loving these pics Yossy, have you put them on Flickr? If not, why not!

I buy my car paint from there (on the other side of the bus) too:

And no, none of my pictures are on Flickr or suchlike and I have no intention of doing so. If people want to see them they'll have to find this small corner of the internet. I don't like to spread myself too thinly.

My Cricklewood pictures would have been sometime around November 88 as that's when the 16 lost it's Routemasters.

I was going to put these in Bus Shite but the things in the background are of interest.

July 1978 this lot when we had our "bus mans holiday" around Scotland on a Regent V.

Forth Bridges.  Tourists in a CF and a Fiat estate (not sure which type), something I cannot identify all to the left of 874 whilst what must have been a pretty new (S reg) 6 series BeeMmm look at the bridge.

post-21417-0-27758700-1515601980_thumb.jpg

Some of us walked across the bridge to be able to photograph her getting to the other side.

A Mk I Capri overtakes whilst a Scania lorry prepares to make the same more.  A Mini van heads the other direction.

post-21417-0-55193000-1515602266_thumb.jpg

Where she was built, Alexanders at Falkirk, with a fine selection of employees vehicles.

Looks like, left to right, an Ascona, Hunter, Corsair, A60, Land Crab, Mk I Escort, Avenger, Mk I Golf (nice colour), Chrysler 180, Mk II Cortina and another Hunter.  At the back appears to be an Alegro estate, Marina, something I cannot work out behind the Golf and a Beetle.

The brown Datsun Sunny 120Y passing behind the Routemaster is of particular interest since it was incredibly popular in Malaysia in the early to mid-80s - almost every other taxi would be a 120Y.

My cousins also used to rent a flat above the barber shop on that stretch of road.

Only just caught up with this thread.  Nice shots (buses and background, including cars and streets). Thirty years ago only seems like yesterday.  Dad was from Hastings; we went shopping in Southampton when living at Anna Valley near Andover 1959ish - our car at the time was a 1954 sidevalve Hillman Minx. Southampton is now unrecognisable to me; we lived in Southsea for a year (1960) - Brading Avenue, not far from the pier.  Trolley buses were still in operation if I remember rightly.  Southsea has not changed much!

Another vote to see more  :-D .

I stopped going to town when they built West Quay.  Went once, never again!   Southsea even still has the trolleybus turning circle down by Eastney Baths....

Here's an opportunity for somebody to take the same shot today (assuming the bridge is still there) outside the old Southdown depot at Hilsea, Portsmouth.  This was taken on 2nd September 1975 and there's nothing that wouldn't look nice on my drive today (apart from the fact the PD3, Atlantean and Leyland lorry will not fit).

Including Clydeside's RML 900 working Finchley's route 13 in return for Finchley's RML 903 visiting Glasgow the year before. Yay beige Sherpa.

And this Datsun seems to have taken a wrong turn somewhere, Oxford Street being bus and taxi only. With bonus old man.

And these last two were taken in Sutton Garage. Another CX estate and one of those little Suzuki things and bonus Commer van.
