Took this out tonight to get fuelled up for its trip to Kircaldy for major surgery.

 

Ran beautifully until I put £10 of Shells finest 95 in it. then went misfirey until about 3k on WOT. Suspect 1 of 3 things:

 

1. Its a grumpy bastard

2. Its got an issue with the coil pack (common fault, but no EML on)

3. Its got a map on it that likes 98RON - although it has had a full tank of 95 through it with no issue

I think they're designed to run properly only on 98RON out the factory. What does the filler cap label say?

 

Maybe the knock sensor is a bit duff too?

yeah but I'm tight, and the burd's runs happily on 95.

Could well be a coilpack but given the variable here that has changed is fuel, I suspect that first.

 

I'd check the knock sensor. Iirc not unusual that they disintegrate and if they're not working properly won't detect it knocking on the shit fuel. As they're pretty simple devices, it's not often they throw an EML for failure.

A Clio 172 box should hold 3l of gearbox oil.

Oops. Shame that it was just a leak and low oil that probably killed it.
