Got magazine reviews / tests for the R14 on a P plate which came in Aug 75! :shock: Obviously it must have been a late P reg, the car wasn't even sold in France until 76 & we didn't get it over here until 77 so even R plate would be very very early! Mines an April 78 S plate.

The blurring of the margins I've seen include, MkI Fiesta' on B plates (MkII was available by A reg), MkV Cortina on a B plate (Sierra was available by Y reg), a Rover SD1 Vitesse on an E plate (the 800 was around from D reg), an original style Audi Quattro on a G plate (the curvier B3 style Quattro was around from D reg) and a Toyota Supra KA70 (late 80s / early 90s style) on an L plate (the final style Supra came in at K reg)Edit: Also seen MkI Sierra's on D plate and MkII Sierra's / Sapphire's also on D plate.MkII Granada's on C plate but MkIII Granada's on B plate!

Yeah, the Mk2 Granada estates carried on being made into a C-plate. I don't think I've ever seen a saloon on a C though.Funny thing - I've just been to Asda and in the car park I saw a Reliant Fox on an F plate. Which beats the next newest Fox I've seen by about five years...

Granada saloon on a C plate - you can just about make out what year letter it's on! C888-something. Think there's also a restored police spec one in the Glasgow Museum of Transport. Otherwise, same old story with everyone wanting the new model and stocks of the old hanging around till they're discounted enough to shift them - it's hard to remember now just how big a deal the "new" year letter was in the 1980s... people would buy just about anything to get the latest plate on their driveway.

 

Definitely a handful of Rover 800s on a C reg though, but not sure I've ever seen one

 

Wasn't uncommon for UK motoring magazines to run "first drive" type articles with a left-hand drive car on obviously false UK registrations, months or in some cases years before the first RHD examples hit the roads here. Bonus points to anybody spotting a Fiat Tipo on an E plate!

God I love French cars! 8) That 2nd R14 is the mutts.....and if I hadn't sourced a UK one I'd be seriously tempted. LHD would be a pain though!

If you or I wanted that LN enough & there weren't any nearer ones, I'd move heaven & earth for it. You would drive it back from the South Coast of France, slowly but surely, with no little determination or enthusiasm. But to be honest even the LNA crops up over here as a right hooker reasonably often, more than an R14 anyway. You'd have to be well into them to insist that it should be an LN (which wasn't sold over here) rather than an LNA! A white Y plate LNA lived around the corner from me until about 6yrs ago, so comparatively recently. Guess what they swapped it for?.........a white AX! I bet they were really fun to be with..... :roll:

I'd only want the LN, an LNA is OK but you might as well just get a Talbot Samba. I like the idea of the 2CV engine whirring away up front.

Sorry, too many late nights and an excess of forums to keep up with! Anyway, two out of three of mine were new, and that Minica Toppo makes up for it I think. An ideal addition to MikeD’s Mitsubishi collection I would say.Blue saloon is a 1973 Datsun 1200 (B110). I’ve had one, very endearing little things.

I'd only want the LN, an LNA is OK but you might as well just get a Talbot Samba. I like the idea of the 2CV engine whirring away up front.

Likewise the Peugeot 104 3 door - is that more like the LN or the LNA & Samba?I'm not so keen on the LN rear lights which are smaller & have no reverse in the cluster but the LN is purer & more interesting, agreed. Like the difference between the early & late style Citroen Visa's. I won't mention the transition of GS to GSA because that went through more than just a vague facelift. Ooops :oops:I have a model of the Citroen LN 'Bi-Cylindre', in the same light blue of course! Infact the only time I recall seeing one in the flesh plus photographing it, was also that light blue colour as is the one you eBay linked to us!

We had a Citroen LNA as a runabout at my parents' place in France for a number of years. Although it was an A, it still had the 602cc engine. It was a 1979 model in metallic green, and it had 50/50 split fold rear seats, which I thought was very advanced for the time. My dad used it to teach me the delicate art of clutch control when I was about 11 - I'd been learning in my mum's 205 diesel, on which you could more or less dump the clutch at idle and it'd keep running. With the LNA any less than 3000rpm and it'd stall. I loved it though - so simple and basic, but hilarious fun to drive.
