Exibit A!

Belfast ex-traffic car. Ordered direct from Vauxhall as a 2.0 Sri turbo, then shipped off to Courtenay Sport for complete upgrade. Courtenay everything! And I mean everything. Bought by a friend of mine. Superb wee car.

If the 'MiB' see a NI 'patrol' car - service history/reg plate....

Does your m8 look under the car before driving away?

At least it looks like the cigarette lighter worked in this one.

Actually, although it looks like a bog basic 1.3, DVLA check shows it was a 2.0, last taxed in 1997 when it had by then been painted red, incidentally.

I'd love an unmarked black interceptor.

I'd like one of the Ford Custom/Galaxie 500's from Magnum Force!

Only if you are a back seat passenger perhaps

During an interview many years ago for my local force's workshop, I was told that they were actually BMW dealers, and could basically order what they liked- M5 engine,M5 brakes and suspension, 520i interior, wind up windows etc. Pretty much always been BMW here as long as I remember.

Owned an Ex Devon and Cornwall armed response T5 estate for a bit. Had "Shell test engine" on the rocker cover. Wheelspin in 3rd at 90 in the dry. Mental thing, but no holes in the roof etc.

I've got a 3 year old who smears biscuit mush into the seats. If this was a dealer option I'd tick it.

I did read elsewhere that sometimes police mechanice skimmed cylinder heads to get a few extra bhp.

Don't imagine it's just because they're 3. The mess on the seats goes on for years yet...

I bought a facelift 827 Si with manual box when it was 5 years old, ex Thames Valley training school, had a printed service history of the like never to be repeated and it showed, like a new car.

Apparently standard if a genuine 145 and still pulling is normal for an 827.

The brakes definately weren't an upgrade though, SH showed it ate front discs and had a new set near enough every oil change, and that continued in my ownership, a hard stop from 3 figures would warp them in seconds.

The ex plod 2.0 litre GL Sierra i had many years before that whilst a good reliable motor wasn't any sort of road burner.

The insignia are type approved, unlike the armoured vehicles used before in norn iron. The previous armoured cars were built in house by the police in norn iron... with coach builders being utilised. But times change.

BMW could supply factory built armoured 5 series saloons cheaper than Vauxhall!!

The car dealer I did odd bits of driving for whilst a student had a couple of ex-Kent traffic cars pass through his stock.   His 2.8 mkii Granada felt significantly livelier than standard and had very firm suspension, and when we tested an auction-fresh 2.9 Sierra 4x4 against the 'standard' 2.9 we'd arrived in it was very much quicker off the mark.

Our understanding was that the extra performance was largely due to the very strict running in schedules used.   My brother got the details of what they did from a friend in the force and followed them when running in his new works van.  It seemed to work, as his Fiat Fiorino always went very well indeed.

I'd love this! Ex-RUC armoured Ford Cortina... the only one left in existence (hardly any cars are preserved).

Or this ex belfast traffic Capri 2.8i. Both it and the cortina are in private hands.

I hope that cortina doesn't have a 1.6 pinto.

I remember my mate who live over there in the 90's talking about very low and heavy looking cortinas but I never saw one.

These two dinosaurs belong to the feds too. Both old armoured land rovers. That's it. Nowt else has been saved by the force for posterity.

Cortina were 2.0 L and GL spec. That red ones a GL. Only available in L spec for police. Had a 4.4 diff from memory to help acceleration, due to being armoured. Had air ride too! I shit you not!

Yeah Police Interceptor is a trim level on the Crown Vic. Exactly as you'd expect.

My mate owns this original paint, ex-met police S-Type, very basic interior with vinyl seats and no rev counter, looks odd! I'll try and get a pic of the dash.

Hopefully it will be the road soon and I'll find out what it goes like. Apparently it started instantly and settled into a perfect idle after sorting the fuel pumps and some fresh juice. Was off the road for many years previous.

That is gorgeous. Tell your mate I'm very jealous!
