Landcrabs- Any Good?

What a VERY enjoyable thread, Thanks, chaps !!

My father bought a Morris 1800 from new, in a pea green,   MRL 845 F

from a dealership in West Cornwall, not sure which one, but maybe

Two Smoke 300 will know, if he's not still reading other links  !!

I remember the cavernous space inside, especially the rear, where I

confess to groping a dolly bird in St.Ives who stretched out completely

whilst still sitting on the seat

Unfortunately I was not in the UK when he decided to sell it, with 46,000 miles

from new on it, one owner, for a paltry £45....  I think it went to a banger racer,

or is it still around???    I never saw it again...   pity,  good memories,

and the car was not bad, either......

I seem to remember, back in 1970 (or thereabouts), that West Mercia Police Traffic Departments used both Mk IIS 1800s and Triumph 2.5 PIs.  They were always* white but had orange doors.  They also sported a triangular sign with the blue beacon atop.  A loudspeaker always adorned the front.  I remember also a Ford Transit with sliding doors.  The 1800s and PIs replaced the old, black Westminsters.

* a solitary green, stealth PI (GWP628J) was shared between various divisions.  It had no blue lights or strobes anywhere but it did have the dee-dar horns.

This is similar, but Staffs, apparently .post-17414-0-84221500-1499348466_thumb.jpeg

As for Landcrab wheels, were the optional Ro-styles shared with any other cars, they look too narrow and a funny offset to be the same as export P6s, but the fact SD1 rims fit they must be same PCD.

A dinner lady at my secondary school had a very late metallic tourquoise Six with blue velour and Ro-styles , she was what today's youth would call a milf and whenever I see those wheels on a crab ,it reminds me of her tits- should I be sharing this?

Anyway, here's the Bloggs family setting the first sub 10 minute saloon car time at the Longbridgring

Brilliant. My memory sort of works the same way.

The dream.

Now that is not a reg number I would chose if I was advertising an executive limousine. I believe it is now appearing in any one of several ads for generic German rep mobiles.

I owned this briefly, though never got as far as getting it on the road. It was fairly sound but had a fault with the power steering which only seemed to work in one direction.

It wouldn't have taken much to sort but I had too many other cars and this chap offered me slightly more than I paid for it.

Looks like a 3 litre estate, that is a rare bird indeed. Loving all the stuff about 3 litres on this thread as these cars have always fascinated me being such a flop and ungainly compared to the car they replaced, though now I think they look quite elegant.....

Yes, was exported then reimported. This one still exists too. Now belongs to the nephew of the person who has his head under the bonnet in this picture. The Hornet now belongs to the daughter of same. The blue Six was one of mine.

I have absolutely no recollection of this photo, though I was obviously there. I've been staring at it trying to figure out where it is but I've drawn a blank.

You must either be Hatchy, or at least know him!

It looks as if GOC824N has got a quarter light on the driver's door, but not the passenger one. Some sort of Police special order so they could fit that natty Perspex thing ( Galemaster??) or just usual BL quality control.

Haha, no thread on crabs could go on for long without the Hatch family being mentioned. Wilf started it all but his son and nephew both have them. The Harvest Gold one is indeed Stuarts. Now has a nice straight through stainless exhaust. Sounds lovely.

NINE seater?

Yes.  Landcrabs and Lobsters are very wide inside

Posted

Now you put it that way a mk1 Austin/Morris with split front bench could be a nine seater. Four in the front, five in the back.

I had a toy "Spot on" 1800 that I painted in the red with white roof  and matt black bonnet of rally cars. I also had the "Corgi" Hunter Marathon winner to play with!

Later on when about 18, I helped a mate take the gearbox out of an Almond green 1800, can't remember why or even what happened to it.
