Photos from a village steam rally

To popped over to a little steam rally today in Essex near a small village called Aldham, this rally has been going for 40 years now and I've probably been going most years for at least 25 years! As we had a absolute nightmare last night with the little one we got there too late to display with the Dolomite so i had to rough it in the public car park and pay £12 for the privilege!

Whilst most of the stuff is your mainstream MGB kinda stuff there is normally a few interesting bits there.

Now this Transit was special, proper wrobtasic, it had been painted badly with a brush and all the paint was just big lumps and runs.

Stars of the show (Dolly and SD1) were in the carpark, often the best place to find some interesting stuff at cars shows.

I'd love to organise a classic car show and ban MGB's, fuckin things turn up like wasps at a picnic everytime

Posted

One of our local Fete things banned Morris Minors.   Have to say I agreed, the local branch used to turn up en masse, park in an interminably boring line-up, erect stupid flappy gazebos and proceed to devour their Asda cakes and Tupperware box-fulls of sandwiches totally oblivious to anybody else or any of the myriad local delicacies on offer at the stalls.

Almost every one of these car's owners had at least one other interesting car they could have taken along (from Pagoda Merc to pre-war Peugeot) but instead it looked like the delivery park at Cowley during an annual shut-down.   Heaven forbid any of them should use their cars daily, attending this must have represented a good chunk of their car's annual mileage.

And breeathe.....

Anyway, that  Wedgwood P6 is a flippin' beauty and a perfect match with the Cortina.....

I share those views, nice snaps there Triggs, and I hope the munchkin is OK

I passed there yesterday when having a blat around in the AX. Would have stopped bit have no interest in steam engines (burn the heretic!).

I actually like MGB's and minors, but the lack of imagination of the owners is a depressing spectacle.

Oh dear Triggs, poor little mite

One make car club that join on mass do my head in, every year the Stag owners turn up for the Felixstowe run on mass and fight and race to park together on the prom, some years there's over 15 of them in a row...

Still my favorite was this Granada club at Battlesbridge a number of years back now, Peter Stringfellow and his mates turning up and setting camp up in front of the cars.

When you look at the club stands at Helmlingham Hall, a big row of Stags and sodding Sherpa coupes & cabrios, it makes me want to go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and I stopped going to a lot of bus events in the south because there would inevitably be a whole row of identical looking Rotmasters which have to be the most over rated anachronisms ever. I ignored 99% of the Stags at Felixstowe due to them being for me boring as hell.

His complexion matches the mk1 Ghia at the side of him as well

Another year, another Aldham that I don't make it to. That better not have been the last time it's on.

Not sure how old your wee one is but we used Ashton & Parsons  (Or Aston Martins as i called it) for the wee one when teething. Helped him a lot.

That Reliant Regal is lovely. Looks a good day out.

One reason I don't do one make/model shows. Owners blackcatting each other about who has the shiniest engine bay or the most pointless chrome bling crap

I am doing a show called Braunton Wheels in July in which the local club I belong to will be displaying a late Rover Mini, Moggie Traveller, Porch thing, 72 Range Rover, 69 88 Landrover, Staaaag and possibly a Robin Hood (lotus 7 copy) if Graham can get the bloody thing going. The Landie gets more attention than the rest together

Variety is the spice of life and agree rows of the same model car is just so 1990s

We use this liquid stuff you rub on the gums, i forget what its called but it's something like Anusol (i don't think that's spell right!)

Not sure you're meant to rub that on your gums, could be aggravating the situation..

Was recently in Ypres, Belgium and the town square was full, absolutely full with Lotus Elises (Elisii?). Now, much as I like an Elise,

200 of them parked together was pretty sad, as apart from colour, they all looked the same.
