This went drag racing today!

Good fun but not exactly quick. More fun on the back roads to/from the track.

I Did, however get a vidya for Cavcraft (excuse the portrait action- Godson was driving the phone)

FYI its a 2.2 cdti

Posted

About second quicker than starlet.. I think that 18.2 at 76mph ish

1.1l more engine for 1 sec..

Lame

Posted

Starlet was race car though :-)

And the record was held by our international Bulgarian driver...

Posted

The Vectra driver wasn't trying. He's clearly a winner in life and therefore has nothing to prove to anyone.

Nah,he thought I ain't taking my lovely Vauxhall anywhere near that piece of Italian diesel flavoured Pastamobile

Posted

1775 odd miles in. Last tank was a 44.6mpg after drag racing and delightful* m9 traffic.

I set about trying to make it less honking in the inside..

First up was to do the boot.

post-17572-0-76416400-1499007573_thumb.jpg

This was almost fetid! Think it'd been used by a painter/decorator as a mixing pallette..

A damn good hoovering and some febrise had it much led honkarino

Also found some bonus cubbyholes- ideal for tool storage once the random bolts were removed.

I cleaned out the wheel well and found Alfa spec fresh air ventilation

I put the padding back down.

Next up was a clean round the rear hatch, which highlighted an interesting* join in the rear quarter..

post-17572-0-59344500-1499007861_thumb.jpg

Add that to the myriad other rusty spots (roof/sills/bottom of wings) and its not looking like any trophies will be forthcoming.

Next up, sorting the drivers side skoosher. It was doing a tremendous job of washing the sky.

For once, Alfa made it simple with a little screw head you turn to move the jets. Doddle!

Next I turned my attention to the damaged right rear door card- managing to glue the material back on so I didn't have to swap cards

post-17572-0-68693800-1499008239_thumb.jpg

The rear bolsters were swapped from blue cloth to black leather, meaning all the seats were one colour now.

I then checked the oil level (at max), tightened the negative battery lead and hoovered and cleaned out the front and rear.

It is slightly less hoachin now.

Looks better, can confirm that mine has crust in many similar places.

Random flecks/lumps of silicone sealant - check

Dog smell - check

At least the headlining is decent!

The door cards are not hard to do tbh.

Looked into battery drain shite yet?

Too late, they're in the skip:)

Tightening the battery terminal seems to have helped. Bulb out light still shows, but car has never failed to start.

CBA swapping rev counter until I've decided what I'm doing..

In its favour, rev counter swap on these is the easiest thing in the world to do.

Well reader, lemme tell you a tale!

Yesterday evening as I schlepped the 5th tank of the devil's fuel into this tub, it occurred to me that it was overdue some loving..

We're about 2400 miles in now and the car has done sterling service - the oil level was OK, but it hoacheth avec les carcinogens.

Duly this morn, I dialled the pet motor factor and secured a £4 oil filter for later collection.

Left work at 4, and got the lump plenty hot on the 45 mile commute in the blazing sunshine.

Arrived at the factors and had to make the cost up to £10 so I could use my card. Overdue wiper blade purchasing tipped it over the line.

Home thereafter, and after a brief 'diet coke' moment, I was out the work claes and into the oilwrangling gear.

At that precise moment, God did look down upon me and smite me for my lack of Busso. Much rain, many moist.

I persevered and marvelled at the access.

The dipstick is handily* placed pretty much at the scuttle- luckily the Pela tube reached.

post-17572-0-43365200-1500056401_thumb.jpg

The filter, not so much. Hot exhaust coupled with the need for double jointed elbows meant slow progress to get it loosened, and a good schlep of oil on the floor.

post-17572-0-12045900-1500056535_thumb.jpg

New filter fitted, I lobbed in some of Asda's finest 5w30 - the same super duper low ash vw507 spec fully synth as used with the ole Fabia.

Started her up and its about 100db quieter.

Happytimes!

In sunny* Berwick upon landed gentry clothing.

Hit a bastard of a bump on the a1, and now her a red EML on when it hits boost. Any ideas?

Posted

In a fit of intelligence I went to the pub.

Brother now driving us up the road.

It goes OK apart from a gaping chasm in boost when shifting.

Tomorrow I shall investigate the boost pipes the tame jtd wrangler (Dave_Q) has pointed out as likely culprits

OK. Boost issue times.

Initial inspection of the inlet to the turbo showed a couple of tears in the inlet hose (bellows section on RHS of the pic)

post-17572-0-41528500-1500219572_thumb.jpg

I then crawled underneath and checked the intercooler bottom hose.

post-17572-0-81774800-1500219614_thumb.jpg

I couldn't feel or see any splits/ damage and both ends were securely clipped.

With the engine running, you can hear a definite blow from the LHS of the car. This is altered in tone by squeezing the bottom intercooler pipe, but not by squeezing the top one.

I think there must be a hole/damage somewhere near or on the intercooler.

There are some s/h intercoolers on the bay for cheap enough: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-GT-1-9-JTD-Coupe-Intercooler-46744880-/152607620802?epid=1909560083&hash=item23881f7ec2:g:gkQAAOSwAPVZHGOu

Looks like 1.9 and 2.4 ones are the same and a 156, 147 or GT one will do.

Bumper off to get it out though. Can post some pics from elearn but it's just undo all the bolts and remove.

Cheers for the info! I'm not convinced its the intercooler, as It could also be pipework.

Bumper off does not seem fun

With my multicar insurance due up soon, I've decided to revisit fleet priorities.

This doesn't fit, so time for it to go.

Good

Its £250!!

MOT 21/04/18

Recent (200 miles ago) oil service

Full leather interior in good condition

Decent tyres

2.4 JTD is a cracker of an engine! Seeing 45-49 mpg on my commute with plenty torque and an offbeat 5cyl warble.

New battery fitted recently when Ken had it.

Car-park friendly bodywork.

Interior now significantly less fragrant.

Bad

Several dents/scrapes/rust patches as seen in pics above inc hole in one of the wings.

Load cover doesn't retract.

Boost leak apparently - still driveable but slow to respond at low revs.

Suspension sounds like a five finger shuffling skeleton in the tins de bisquits.

5th gear can be recalcitrant until you get the knack of it.

Warts and all viewing available anytime - just let me know.

Will potentially entertain PX.

NO ROFFLAGE, sorry.

Cheers

Hope this stays in the fold so I can still have a SHIT ALFA FWEND.

All issues are minors and could be sorted quite easily if you had CBA of >0.
