He agreed that it wasn't as bad as it looked, since all the rust is confined to flat bits. That shop has all the floorpans except the rear left. Also the repair panels seem to come pre-rusted for your convenience. 87218.jpg The outer sill is hardly a flat bit. I like that authentic restoration look of the rep panels. Patina is sooo en Vogue atm.Isn't it typical that the one I need isn't available now? It was earlier this week.

Junkman Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 Yeah, it's true. I had a Thema which urgently needed rear shocks and they had to be ordered from Italy. After only six weeks they already arrived, but they turned out to be the wrong ones. All attempts to return them and get the correct ones yielded radio silence. somewhatfoolish Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 That's fairly standard practise for Italian businesses; in the absence of the opportunity to communicate your needs in person via the medium of speaking english loudly and slowly with a cod italian accent, testiculating vigorously and pointing at the component in question, it's pretty much impossible to get any kind of joy out of Luigi and Massimo. That's assuming you are lucky enough to catch them open rather than closed for the endless supply of saints days, religious festivals and general manana-ness that proximity to the Mediterranean seems to induce. Lovely place and lovely food, though. See, that's why I went for a French car this time. The French are really going out of their way helping you out of a tight spot, their shops are always open and they reply to every email promptly.Plus I don't like Italian food. In fact, I hate it. After a few days in Italy, I start looking forward to the Wipptalerhof, just across the border at the Brennero.Whether I like the allegedly very good French food I'm unable to tell, since whenever I was in France none was served, so I never had the chance to try it. They could be dickering over the price of a pound half-kilo of toms, how good the olive harvest will be this year or debating the particular shade of Grecian 2000 Silvio Berlusconi uses on his combover, it will be conducted with gusto, enthusiasm and enough hand-waving to power White Lees wind farm. warren t claim Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 I'm trying to imagine a car manufacturer trying to market a car with a column change manual in 2017. The second decade of the 21st century really is a boring place. Junkman, Uncle Jimmy and Lacquer Peel 3
Junkman Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 In fact it became increasingly boring over the past 30 years and not only in the automotive sector. The world, once a colourful place where people genuinely had a choice, was reduced to a shopping mall infested mishmashand the biggest choice you have is basically between McDonalds and Burger King. It's called Globalism and it's the most fascist thing that ever happened.Sadly it's embraced by many, since it allows for a relatively lazy and uneventful existence within a perceived blanket of security. What I like about these old cars and why I so cherish them, ist that you can see in every little detail how hard they fought for each individual customer. The mid Fifties to the mid Eighties were certainly the heyday of the automobile. Never before or after were cars so recognizeable and individualistic. Lacquer Peel, tinribs, Brodders and 11 others 14
r.welfare Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 What do we think was the last car offered with a manual column shift on the UK market - could it have been the 16 which was last sold here in '79?
Junkman Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 I'd say it is. It's also one of the very few cars that were ever sold with a five speed column change.
Junkman Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 Well, it's not.The W124 was available with a column change manual until 1996. It might not have been available in the UK though. Ghosty, Bear, BorniteIdentity and 7 others 10
Junkman Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 This makes for another interesting* bit of trivia. If you wanted to buy a new car with manual column shift in America after 1986(why does this year always pop up as the watershed for things going downhill?),you had to import it!The last American car with manual column shift is the 1986 Ford Pick Up. Your options would have been the W124 and some Japanese taxis madeby Nissan and Toyota, which retained manual column changes until 1999,after which manual column change finally became something you do in Excel. The only other cars I know besides the TX that have five speed column changesare the 1958-61 Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina and the 1961-71 Lancia Flavia Berlina. Vince70 and RobT 2

Maybe, but it's certainly very easy to dine and live in The Reich (as well as France) without setting foot in McDonalds etc. A country based on fairly basic cuisine but bristling with very good eateries of all denominations. When I lived in Hamburg (making me an honorary Kraut) there was - believe it or not - an Indian restaurant owned and staffed by real Indians. Not Comanches but Sihks. Great food too. I find the UK increasingly depressing and find also that there are shrinking pockets that contain nice folk and not aggressive, moronic Untermensch. Hence, after I have moved house later this year, I shall be saving hard to buy a 100 grand pile somwhere in the Rhineland. Decent sized house, old milking shed as a workshop, farting about with old cars and earning a modest living, mingling with the Master Race whom I have always found to be a fine body of volk. Fuck, I've just found a nice old joint right next to Hahn airport (Lyinair) and it's 35 sheets to Stanstead and return on a weekday. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-property/property-41413734.html Cars?
