Front wheel drive- have you considered laminate flooring?

It's not removing the interior that sucks, it's installing it.

Let's make plans about which sound deadening would work best.

I'm thinking in some kind of Dynamat terms.

Sigi in Austria told me about something they use in those old Maseratis they do up.

It's some sort of tiles and you install them with a hair dryer. They thus conform to every crevice in the floor.

The stuff can't be expensive too, otherwise they wouldn't use it.

That's what's in there at the moment. They clearly installed pre-cut floorpan shaped sheets of tarry shit which conformed into every crevice in the floor. I know this because it is the reason your car has no floor.

This flat floor is begging for some Axminster off cut.

Do not lead me into temptation...

Do you think something could be fashioned from peat?

I'm at the source atm.

Peat would be cleaner and more pleasant to remove from the car.

whilst you are disassemling the renner you must take one of the headlights out and check if it one of the legendary "turn it upside down pour le rostbiff" rhd light pattern- thery were in my dads 1972 renner 12 estate

I keep stressing this, but am constantly told I'm full of shit.

Sadly I'm currently too on the definitely wrong side of the Irish Sea to prove that point.

Don't be dispondant, bit of cutting and welding will see it right!

Then rust proof the shit out of the new metal and refit the rubber mat, or hurl it over a hedge and fit shag pile carpet

This is shocking considering how well it looks on pictures.

Still jealous though...

No big deal to sort.

I have a spare sill if you need one.

I believe floorpans are one of the few panels you can still buy new for these

Posted

Floor pans, outer sills and the rear panel for some odd reason.

Sadly it turns out that wings are unobtainium. Which is a pity, since the offside one is made from plaster of Paris.

Which of the Bilt Hamber stuff do I use? The brushable one?

Once metal is clean and no rust i use the Dynax UB, its a black coating but so far as been really good on the 75. They also do various gel type products to remove rust too.

You're missing an opportunity here, lads.

Hole in ze floor? No problem. All you need to do is install one of these:

Does that UB stuff dry properly, or is it the stuff that stays sticky?

Photo shop a 'reverse image' of the good wing & 3D print it.

Not load bearing, are they? [plaster of le Capital suggests NOT] ;)

It dries properly, does not leave sticky finish like some other makes do. Takes a few days to fully dry.

Takes a few years to stop stinking, too?

Smells ok, not as bad as the deodorant i just bought from Aldi.

The rust looks a lot less severe with more photos. It does look like it is rusting from water sitting in them under the rubber mats. You can pretty much measure its depth of water by the rust/discolouration. I remember my mother's Renault 4TL had reversible headlights which you moved with a tab. I can remember playing with it as a child.

I once bought an R4 simply on the grounds that there were four inches of water in it, so I knew the floors are good.

It's with the welder now. He agreed that it wasn't as bad as it looked, since all the rust is confined to flat bits.

That shop has all the floorpans except the rear left. Also the repair panels seem to come pre-rusted for your convenience.

Normally on floorpans and other underbody bits I clean it all back to bare metal/weld in new metal. Then give it all a coat of zinc rich paint or etch primer, followed by a coat of underbody 'stonechip' paint then finally a top coat of Dynax UB or similar. The more layers of paint it's got the better the resistance against rust.

The 'stonechip' paint is very tough and thick too so does a really good job of stopping damp getting under it to the metal and doesn't chip or peel like that shitty old bitumen under seal did.

Inside the car give it a coat of zinc paint or etch primer then a coat of the 'stonechip'.

The stonechip paint is also overpaintable once its dry so you can even paint it bodycolour if your that bothered.

Hell, that doesn't look too bad. It could be much worse.

With my Daihatsu I've found a coat of zinc primer, then a coat of POR15 and a layer of underbody wax seems to have kept the rust at bay exceptionally well. Despite the thing's propensity to rust it's laughed in the face of two salty winters (well, the treated bits have at least).

The front bumper of the one in your photo looks better than mine.

So does the offside wing.

Where is it?

misery session

Aah, 50 year old French car. It was only time until the inevitable happened.
