Maybe not...just the 'special' handshake?

Well bought Neil, I do regret selling the ex-SL LS400 that I had last year, they really are a fantastic car.

Ditto. And I still regret selling mine in the first place!

I very much upset an oil burning A4 driver yesterday.  And had a little bit of excitement round a shopping centre roundabout. I really need to get some proper tyres on it.

I can't see you not liking yours Neil!

Mason has Avon's all round- still able to "one wheel wonder" it out the end of the street in the dry if you try;)

Thanks for all the interest in taking on the Lexus. I may* have been grooming Neil for the last month or so to talk him into taking the Lexus. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

Is the horrible judder while braking still there, and are the electrics still dodgy as fuck?

It's intermittently there. I was expecting something to show up in the MOT but as it didn't first port of call would be clean up caliper pistons and sliders and maybe a new set of pads to get the pistons back into the bores a bit.

Dome kicked fuck out of the fusebox 5 minutes after collecting it from Aberdeen- all good, touch hairy wood.

Pretty much sums it up, apart from fiddling with the fusebox it fixed itself in the first week and never gave me any more problems.

In preparation for "Fabia Replacement Duties" I inflated the tyres, checked and topped up the oil, and brimmed the washer fluid.

Oil check went wellattachicon.gifIMG_20170424_175911.jpg

Washer fluid not so much..

attachicon.gifIMG_20170424_181022.jpg

I'm assuming its just the pipe that is leaking, given the bottle is on the other side..

Aye, I meant to say-don't fill the skooshers right up or it'll leak...

How were the fluid levels?

Lexus: The Future past, in the present!

Ariel needs replacing, MW reception was nonexistent traversing the border areas..

A new Ariel is supplied but needs fitting (sound familiar Dollywobbler?)

Aye, some dick drove through a car wash with the radio on. Who'd do a thing like that?

Once you get the aerial working you can enjoy* as it self adjusts the length to get the best reception.

Sounds rude.

I usually find that I get a better reception when I have adjusted the length ......... sorry wrong thread.

When are you going to hack saw off the back boxes?

Funnily enough I have been thinking how to retain the burble and lose the looks...

Posted

Your becoming regulars!

Aye, they'll let any middle management 528i owning riffraff into the place..

Those of us with actual* executive saloons of suitable length and width (steady!)now need to mingle.

Well... it doesn't actually HAVE any back boxes.

I had it up on the ramps at Ramp It Up in Montrose when I briefly owned it, and the exhaust system is thus: cats, middle box, bits of pipe, silly quad tips. That's it.

I thought that. Trying to work out how to hide the tips (ooh err missus)

Possibly remove the trim bits that form the 'quad' tips then cut the remaining pipe at an angle?

Hmm, it would still be below the bumper, though. I think the original exhaust system would have sat just a tiny bit higher in behind the bumper, so it was properly hidden.

All will no doubt be revealed when I bother my arse to have a look:)

Massive cut, huge weld, 4" poke just in front of the rear wheels, BWARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPP, job's a good'un*.

Have waaaafted this back up the road today.

A total of 500.4 miles in 3 days.

Electrically adjustable steering wheel, seat and seat belt height adjustment (really!) All made getting comfortable a doddle.

The cruise made the motorway sections little more taxing than sitting on the bus.

CDs made, the choonz were spot on.

The v8 is a treat, great sound but not intrusive, and the interior is OK once you get your head round it having the same fixtures and fittings as an Avensis.

There are a couple of negatives though:

No fahking trip computer, so no useful info for the driver.

The plastics, oh god the plastics!

Can't open the centre armrest storage if you have cups in the cupholders.

The cruise control stalk rotates with the wheel.

All in all, its only lil foibles I will learn to live with:)

There's also the small matter of it using 79.94L of petrol for 500 miles at a cost of £92.11

For the same money, the Fabia would do 1000miles. But its engine is 1/2 the size, with just over 38% of the power, and it clatters like fuck in comparison to the v8 waftery.

Put into context, the Lexus gets better and better against the Fabia (who's only strong suit is fuel performance).

What to do? Is there a half way house like a 530d that would do 40mpg but with good comfort?

Bastard!

Posted

Drive the Lexus to Carlisle get train home. Then Fabia to Carlisle, Lexus from there to Blackburn. Way home do the opposite

Average your mpg and bobs your uncle.

No need to thank me.

You mean you've found something that fits in the cupholders?

Isn't that 28.5 MPG or thereabouts? Seems pretty reasonable to me!

Fuel range!

Average speed and running time.

The coffee cups from Tebay and cans fit fine:)

28 mpg is OK, but I'm used to the Fabia doing 60+mpg. Using the ls400 each week would cost me about £1700 more a year.

Yes, but so much less misery!

I want another LS400 now.

I have the money to buy a scabby one, tax, and insure it for a year. I just don't have anywhere left to park one. :(

It does field weird jumping between one mega mpg car and one mega un-mpg car. My Juke does 55, the Cadillac very low 20's. You stick 20 quid in the Cadillac it and it sooks it up in less than 100 miles.

I had an S350 v8 that did about 14 mpg. That was truly offensive even to someone used to running cars that do low 20mpgs.
