Nothing burst. You make this sound needlessly dramatic. There is a small split in one of the steering gaiters. The rack's blood leaks out of it.

I might have sensors too - pretty sure it's only the calipers that went and I still have the hubs. Will check tomorrow.

 

I have a faint memory of being able to get the ABS light to show codes which say what the fault is. No idea how to do it anymore, but I found out on XJ40.com.

Yeah, there's an exposed multiplug in the boot near the ABS computer. You just lick it and count the little electric shocks. 

 

In this car's case, the code returned is 21 - either the computer, the main valve, or the wiring in between the two.

I seem to recall the connections crack inside the 'computer' in the boot. I had to open mine & resolder the joints to fix one fault.

Looks lovely in all seriousness.  Perhaps the AS collective's bottle is on the wane.  I never had any in the first place, so I was out before I was in.
