What you have to do is go past the camera sideways.

the local vans around here DO have front cameras for exactly this reason.

basically, squeaky bum for a couple of weeks. They have to send you a Notice of intended Prosecution within 14 days of the offence... if nothing shows in the next 2 weeks youre clear

I can confirm that if they ping you heading towards them at an unruly rate of knots then they take an extra photo of you heading away from them with your plate loud and clear.

Not me happily. Looked like a sweaty couple of weeks for the zx12r owner though.

A retired mate of mine was shitting bricks for weeks after passing a camera van on his bike,

He told me he was heading towards it and when he saw it he slammed the anchors on,

A few months later and one trip to court his licence is six points heavier and his wallet £750 lighter.

I got hit by a camera once but literally noticed it at the last split second and hit the anchors.

Speed camera pic showed a Pug 106 with its brake lights on, arse in the air, nose on the ground and smoke off the rear tyres. Was a great image.

The fine and points were less good of course.

It was a fair cop, I was doing 75 on a motorway at 2am on New Years Day and went through a 100m long section where there were some cones and a speed camera with a 50mph limit attached. Naughty me

Bollock about the 2 week rule btw. No disrespect intended. I got done 38 in a 30 dual carriageway which was recently dropped from 40. I didn't even notice the van. It was approx. 2 months later when the summons dropped through my letter box. We couldn't remember who was driving and mentioned the two week rule. A couple of days later 2 pictures were delivered and an official letter that said I basically was talking shite. The 1st photo was taken from really far away, the  2nd zoomed up and you could see me clear as day. 38 in a 38 meant no option for speed awareness. My 1st points since 2002 ffs.

"what is the 14 day rule?

The 14 day rule relates only to the period of time in which the Police/Process Unit must serve the original Notice. The Police do not have to prove that the Notice reached its intended recipient within 14 days, merely that they believe that it arrived, but there may be a defence available if the intended recipient can convince a Court that the notice did not arrive in time or at all. In many cases, the registered keeper will be a lease company not the actual driver, with the result that even if the driver is unaware of the incident, service of the Notice is good if it was sent to arrive at the registered keeper's last known address within 14 days of the offence."

Ha. That's an in-joke, slightly before your time here I think.

A user started a thread moaning about how he was going to have his "lickenise" ripped up for doing 130mph in a Golf.

At least things aren't that bad for you.

I got done twice in 2 days doing 34 in a 30... Was closer than 400m I think.

Pucker up for 14 days or whatever it is in Ireland!

Right or wrong I'm speaking from personal experience.

Golfs aren't that slow I'm pretty sure they actually do 132 mph.

Rozzer mate of mine told me a story of a biker who went through the same speed camera almost daily at lunatic speeds, with no front number plate the camera couldn't identify him. Biker became cockier than cocky and the pics showed him waving at the camera, riding with no hands on the bars etc.

One morning, Rozzer mate just went out and just waited for him, 'I didn't have to hang about long, the bloke was always on time for work and passed camera at the same time every day'!

14 day rule is absolutely a thing. it is in no way bollox! The only exceptions are if the car was incorrectly registered or registered to a finance company etc.

as someone who has had a few tickets in my life...(which im not proud of!) i'm fairly clued up on speeding laws.

I recall my Mrs driving past a dot matrix sign which flashed up 36 mph in a 30. She said that sign hadn't been up long. Failed to notice the camera Van more or less next to it....

Just a quickie though regards these new smart motorways,I've heard and read contradictory information that the cameras are always on and other saying they only on when lower limits enforced as shown on the gantry. I know they flash at lower limits as when I went to Fife a few truckers got flashed doing 50+ past the 40mph signs. I've never seen them go off though with cars coming past me like I'm stood still when doing 70 and no lower limits shown overhead? Any clarification?

I think they only come on when a lower speed is active but uncertain.
