French fancy, Citroen c2

That looks lovely! The split tailgate is really great and I really like the Burnt Orange colour seats. If she didn't insist on having 4 doors I would replace Mrs Concern's now dead Clio Mk1 with a C2.

I never knew they had split tailgate either till I had this. It's good for slinging stuff out the way though.

Right then. Today I have flushed coolant out, pipes and block. It had what looked like watery copperslip in it and some dark brown gunk in the pipes. Cleaned and flushed and fitted new stat. Bled it out and ran it up to to temperature. Sat at 1 bar. Took it a run round the block and it ended up at half way on gauge and settled. Heaters feel warmer and no overheating. I doubt it is hgf or I'd have thought it would be showing either more on gauge or some other symptoms. Coolant is warm now too

So are you going to tell him he's given away a car for no reason, or claim to have spent all weekend sorting it? :)

I told him from the off I can't say if it's hgf or not. He agreed with me and said if it's an easy fix it's a bonus for me.

I like the c2 but please be really be careful if you disconnect the battery if it's a bsi equipped one . Don't let it go flat either . They just love wiping their immobiliser codes

This is very good advice - follow the BSI shutdown procedure carefully.

I've read something about bsi changing head units. I don't understand it either. When we're they bsi equipped?

BSI is the body control unit - used in the vast majority of Peugeot/Citroens of this age and newer.

Prone to failure and being a massive PITA.

I don't have 1 as yet, been working on it for over a year.It is sitting on my next door neighbour's drive, has been for around 18 months. It belongs to the son who has moved to London for uni,met someone and is staying put.

It has 4 flat tyres,a duff battery, mould on the dash.It is also a semi-auto.The son last started/jumpstarted it christmas 2015 revved the bollox off it for 5-6 minutes then turned it off and went out.

Coolant that looks like dark brown gunge and watery coppaslip?  Someone's chucked K-Seal in that, the cheeky feckers.

Well it seems to be OK. Heaters are great, cooling fan not coming on though, even if ac is on.

I think you should run away from that in all honesty, from comments about bsi, that also being auto will be problematic

A few pics of the old stat, some gunk out the pipes, interior of coolant bottle before it was cleaned. No steam or smoke more than should be for a cold evening.

I think a borked thermostat may have led top the false thought of OMGHG - hence K-Seal.

Definitely doesn't look like any hgf I've seen before to be fair. Not creamy coloured nor anything on dipstick. There's more mayo on wife's vectra than on filler cap too

I agree but their is somthing about this little car that i quite like.

I don't know if it is the semi-auto,robotic manual what ever it is called.

The bright blue seats,or the fact that it has sat disregarded, flat tyres, covered in cab webs.

I wouldn't worry too much about BSIs, any electrical randomness on my C5 was cured by turning it off and turning it on again. I never followed any procedure when disconnecting the battery, on connecting it I would let it sit for five minutes with the ignition on. Pretty much every car introduced this century has a similar system.

Bring a Shiter its probably the flat tyres and cobwebs! Mine has the orange coloured seats under the covers.,
