Escort Convertible, where do I flog that?

I'm seriously considering selling my Escy. She's in pretty good nick, 93 on L, 1.8Si 130ps in Imperial blue. About 85k miles, newish hood, some history. I've owned her for 9 years, and she sits in the garage from October to april or may, SORNed and wrapped in sheets. (Really!) Having read some of the horror stories from you chaps about flogging older/less valuable cars on fleabay, I'd rather avoid that if at all possible, and wondered if there's any other website (Retro Rides?) thats more suited to try and flog her on. The local press is obviously one option, but that normally just generates phone calls from either sales people ("Give me £150 and I'll sell your car") or knuckle dragging chavs (I live in Grays, Essex, near the chav Mecca of Lakeside....)Anyone on here fancy her? Will stick some photos on if anyone cares! Seth of this parish has seen her, although he probably doesn't remember!!Any suggestions most welcome.

If it's as good as you say it is , I would recommend the classifieds of 'Fast Ford' and 'Classic Ford' mags, where you are more likely to get a buyer with a care regime that fits yours. Ebay will see you having to encounter people who have seemingly just got off the bus from the Neader Valley.

Pistonheads is good, but everywhere has the odd timewasters - Retro Rides, ebay, etc. State in massive bold letters that if you're not serious do not express interest. :)

What about the autotrader website?, Costs you about £20 but you get to put some decent pictures up and you might get someone more perceivably after that model.

I'm inclined to agree, if £20 wasn't a huge percentage of its value I'd be tempted to put the Bluebird on there. Had one sniff on C&C so far, we'll see if anything comes of that...About Autotrader, while I don't think it's as good for general browsing it is good at finding something specific, or at least that's what I found as a serious buyer. It threw up several cars that fitted my bill, one of which I am getting, whereas eBay wasn't giving me as many suitable results.Do you get to take the pictures on it nowadays, or do they still send someone out? That would be my only reservation, clear, well-composed pic's on a bright day help an awful lot (witness what The Doctor does) and there's more chance you'll be able to get that yourself.

Yes you do now, I've put a couple of cars on there now and they now allow you to add your own photo's, It's quite similar to ebay where you add your registration number and it pre-fills the form for you.Had a good response from autotrader when i sold my Focus, Sold with in a day.

You get to put pictures up yourself, but I'd avoid Autotrader unless you want to put up with a lot of no-hopers ringing up and asking "What is your best price".

If you sell more than 2 cars in a set period on Autotrader (I think it's 12 months but might be longer) they consider you "trade" and therefore charge more and slap a "trade" thing next to your ad, which is a bit of a bugger if (like me) you get roped in to helping friends sell cars...Also the pre-fill bit on the Autotrader website seems a bit hit-and-miss on spec, it thought a Mk1 406 1.9TD I sold last year was an automatic (no such car exists!) and was a terrible kerfuffle to sort out, I had to get the ad pulled by their tech department and resubmit it as you couldn't edit it. But I agree that you still get mainly mouth-breathers ringing up, even if you take decent photos and compose a comprehensive spiel.Gumtree might be another option? The last car I sold went through that route and it was free then; I think it's still free now but they encourage you to pay an amount (£3/week?) to keep it at the top of the search listing, plus you only get three pictures.

I think it all depends on what your selling.I sold the Neon - Bust headgasket, no MOT no TAX on Gumtree, £200.Did have a load of 'Has it got any MOT, will you take £80?' morons but someone came through within a week who bought it no questions asked, for the advertised price.Funnily enough advertised it on Eghey at the same time, and got THE SAME 'Has it got any MOT, will you take £80?' morons...Not sold through the trader, but bought the present S70 through it. The Trader I bought off rated it for selling his part exchanges.Sold the Seicento through RetroRides, dealt with a few muppets, but someone came and bought it for the asking price in the end.Depends on what you're selling I guess, however, if someone is waving the asking price under my nose, I aint gonna quibble, as at the end of the day I'm SELLING a car for a reason.
