Have LDV been nicking other peoples parts bins

I noticed a while ago how the LDV maxus looks just like the older sloping front Tranny van, and last night I couldnt help but notice more than a passing resemblence to the Nissan Vannette of the LDV Cub - whats going on???

The death of originality, that's what's going on. Both cars and vans are now all made to look alike, so you don't have to think about style when choosing a brand new one. You just go to your nearest dealership and you will get a car or van. Doesn't matter which, they all look alike so you just go to the nearest......

Wasn't the Cub just a rebadged Vanette (aka Serena) anyway?

Yes. The only LDV bit was the badge. They always nicked stuff from parts bins. Imagine my horror when I clambered aboard an MG RV8 and discovered that heater controls were exactly the same as those in an LDV Pilot!

Oh thats been the same for donkeys years, when the Discovery first came out - imagine my surprise to find myself looking at the clocks and stalks from the Mk 2 Metro - they were brown too...

And the rear lights from a Maestro van, the headlamps from the Allegro I think? Certainly something shite. It was like building shite by numbers! The door handles are certainly Allegro. Maybe it was Metro (City) headlamps?Goes on all the time. We've got a Saab 9-5 downstairs and you can see the odd bit of Vauxhall switchgear. All very disturbing.

When I used to get the company minibus, an LDV Convoy, to work in the morning the only thing that broke up the smelly, tedious journey backed by the infuriatingly chummy commercial local radio station was spotting the ex-Austin Rover switchgear and trim.Bloody hell, I am sad.

Aaaah, the thing about the Disco rear lights is they have a Land Rover badge on them. As such, they're a different part number, and a different price. My disco-owning friend reckoned to replace a smashed rear light was going to cost £80 plus VAT.Thing is, you could at the time walk into a Rover dealer and order a Maestro Van rear lamp. Doesn't have the Land Rover badge, hence costs about £15.think they changed them to all-red and put the indicators in the bumper after a while, so it all swapped around - saw a lovely Maestro van slammed on little wide wheels wearing all-red Disco lamps :)

I recalling seeing a test bed model for the Discovery in the late 80's, which was basically a jacked up Maestro van - They share the same wheelbase and a bit more by the looks of things. The door handles always make me laugh - I think the Allegro door handle should win awards for supporting the British car industry for so long.

Doubt that was a Disco - more likely to be a very early Freelander mule. They were all disguised as Maestro vans. Must have been fun working at Gaydon in those days with 4x4 Maestro vans and mid-engined Metro van mules for the MGF!

Hey Ian, check out the amount of switchgear shared between your Mini and a LR 90 or 110 up to 2007 - I had to look twice when we got ours!On another note we had a brand spanker Defender early this week, they've redesigned the ignition key for the first time since the Series III in 1972. The trouble is due to the shiny new modern dash that wraps around the 1983-vintage steering shroud and Mini stalks, the key is a bugger to get in and out now and there is absolutely zero chance of leaving the headlights on - the switch gets in the way of the key turning!

Mgf shares the Morris Ital glovebox! Jaguar mk2 ashtray (sometimes in cast metal!). Metro subframe!!!I saw an LDV the other day and realised it had torsion beam suspension on the front (just as bad on the rear)!!!

Ah, I guess they call it progress!

Hey this LDV concept noted earlier looks quite smart for 1988.Wonder what would have happened if they had made that. I think it looks like the 2000 Transit from the scuttle back, and a 90's Renault Trafic at the front.Didnt know about the Discovery/Maestro rear lights similarity either lol

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the use of Transit running gear in LDV vans.
