Anyone interested in a LDV Pilot/Sherpa

How about you drive the Rover to me, Rochdale ish, I pay you the price of a cheap LDV,  and I drive you to Bolsover to pick it up.

Since my hands reacted to whatever it is they reacted to, I've lost interest in driving the Rover.  It's the Number One Suspect, because it's the only thing they come into contact with that's changed in the timescale.  I'm really not keen to do things that cause me this kind of pain, or any kind really, so that's why I phrased the swop-offer the way I did.  Bring me van, take away luxury car.  Coffee and bacon butties also on offer, but zero cash.

Seriously, I honestly do not want to drive that car any more, which is a crying shame because it's a lovely car.  It's also got rather a lot more MoT on it than the van has.

Started straight up. No need for the easy start thats on the floor in the cab.

Yeah I saw that and expected the worst, but it started from stone cold in 2c weather as well as any old diesel would, I think he gave it a couple of goes on the glow plugs but it only took a few seconds cranking it and it was happy idling and smoking pleasantly like a van should.

Totally understand your position eddy.

I am interested in the Rover, but not keen on driving an unknown LDV from Bolsover to Barrow? is it?  Last collection I did ended with the RAC.

I've been Barrow once, left off the M6 and drive forever.

I also have insurance problems which may affect cover on the van and the Rover.

I'll have a think about things, and we will see what develops,

Barrow, that's correct, and it is indeed more or less where you last saw it.

Got to be the cheapest way into a very nice early 75... ;)

I know nothing about the Rover 75, but everyone's got one and I feel I'm missing out.

It needs a tow bar really and an extra 500cc.

What makes your Rover 75 painfully uncomfortable to drive and why would an LDV Pilot with leaf springs all round and seats that have probably sagged badly over 200k be any better?

As mentioned at the top of this very page, and previously detailed in the car's own thread...

I'm still none the wiser, not that I need to be. Your hands reacted badly to driving the 75? Is it the driving position? The steering? How is a van based on 1950s principles with a steering box going to be better?

Just curious like.

I can maybe relate a little because I found my Nissan Vanette one of the comfiest vehicles I've ever driven.

At no time did I ever say the car was uncomfortable, it isn't.  It's one of the most comfortable cars I've ever had.  However, some part of the interior that I touch regularly while using it appears to have been coated with something invisible to the naked eye that agitates my eczema, before I ever got hold of the car.  Thus I am in excruciating pain from the skin on the palms of my hands, and the contact-bearing surfaces of my fingers.  I've never had this reaction to any other car I've driven, and I've driven many.  Not to mention trucks, rental cars, other people's vehicles, etc etc.

Roveritis, it's channelling the rust into you

I think it was legislation that phased them out rather than LDV itself?  I think those sliding door parts have MOWOG or something impressed onto some parts for added CLASS.

LDV Pilot with leaf springs all round

The front leaf springs may well be those beige plastic composite jobs on this.

That's another reason to love it.

Composite leaf springs?  Just like the BTB Oldmansmobile?

I have had similar skin reactions from random things, most recently my first and last Specsavers glasses. In that case I think it was a case of someone mistaking IPA for cleaning fluid.

What is point sliding driver's door - multi-drop deliveries?

Sucks all your delivery paperwork out through turbulence so you can finish early.

If there is enough interest in a Roffle I can send Cobblers the money to buy it and run the roffle if someone can pick it up and store it until the *lucky winner picks it up... I would have my usual 2 tickets too as if its £300 then tickets would be £5 each I think... as long as no one suggests fowl play if I win it...

I will have 3 tickets.

That looks like the perfect addition to my collection of 2 seaters.

Subject to domestic approval, I'll buy that!

(will PM later when it's been discussed)

Just given the fella a ring and I'm going for a look on Saturday.... unless SOC is desperate for it, it does sound nice on the phone.

My dad used to have a red sherpa, highly possible it was a ex royal mail van, it had a sliding side door anyway.

My brother fell out of the said door, when messing about with my dad. Not driving I might ad. So he had to have some stitches in his nogging. Good tale to tell his grandkids.

FFS someone buy this.

I think so yes, I'm going up with the money and plan to take it home with me! Does the pub serve nice food?

It was more of a Phoenix type club than a Pub, so I'd probably presume no food but I might be wrong, I'd never been til I went to see the van. Where are you coming from?
