garbaldy Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 When the pumpkin came up for sale a deal was done which included the sierra so one in one out was a refreshing change for me and it ment no change in garden space. When Sam left I stuck the old gall out the way. Two weeks later I swapped the insurance over from the sierra and to my surprise no charge, since it was now isured and taxed I decided to go for a hurl in my new toy,Hmm it just wouldn't start and was turning over just a bit too slow, one set of jump leads later and still no go,I drained a bit of diesel out of the filter and it's clean enough and a quick call to Sam confirmed it was straight diesel,The only other issue I could see was weeping leak of pipes but shouldn't cause any starting issues,The pumpkin has a new battery new starter new lift pump and filters so very strange,I stuck the battery off the hippo on it and still slow turnover, jump leads again from the now removed battery and she burst into life woopee,It started every time the rest of the day without an issue and even did it's first collection mission without a hitch.The very next day it wouldn't start again damndratbollocks I stuck the jump leads onto the new battery from it and bingo away it went,The battery that was on it was a 70 amp much wallet lightening later we had 90 amps of electric in a box, Of course the darn terminals where opposite way round but luckily the cables where extra long, once I turn the key and send 1.21 jigawatts the auld girl now fires up first time every time, job one done. garbaldy Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 I set about cleaning the auld gal but first had to empty her,I set to with Hetty,After much sookin she was clean but then the seats wouldn't click shut as they don't line up,Cloth seats catch,Leather seats catch who would have thought it two different catches for the same vehicle,A quick swap over and hey presto we have locked seats. Back seats look so comfy and they are. Put the boot back together and she's looking good. Moving on to the front and after cleaning the trims where all missing.After some screwing it's starting to come together,All I need now is some mats to finish the cabin and maybe try and source a seat or cover to replace the torn drivers seat, cort16, The Moog, Cavcraft and 14 others 17

Diesel auto then?It sure is,Sam was saying she's not a very lively auld gal and I have to say she's a nice relaxing drive if a tad noisy, While investigating a bit if mild tuning the waste gate appears to be seized, I removed the actuator arm from the waste gate arm and it will move a couple of mill either way but I suspect it's wear movement rather than the spindle moving, Does anyone know how much it's ment to move, Jim Bell and red5 2

garbaldy Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 You won't get much movement by hand on the wastegate actuator, the spring is very strong.If it's seized, it might be holding the wastegate open and you're not getting any boost. The simplest way to check is get a cheap boost gauge and vacuum hose it onto the inlet.Sorry my description wasnt 100% clear I hardly get any movement on the waste gate at all with the actuator arm disconnected,The stainless arm moves a tiny bit but it looks like the spindle doesn't,Boost gauge acquired update to follow. Yup chaseracer she's a nice auld gall
garbaldy Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 A call to a mate and this was dropped of this morning,I fed this pipe through one of the many bulkhead holes and it just reaches the UFO boost feed.I cut it close to the banjo so I can put it back to normal once done, I got the old fire gun out to heat the pipe.After a bit of heat the t piece slides in with ease and once cooled she's a lovely tight fit. I did the same with the other two bits and job done, it's like it came from the factory.The boost gauge was jammed beside the dash pod with a wooly hat and test drive progressed,One full acceleration run on full boost the results are in. That's around 7/8 psi of boost so does anyone know what it's ment to be running ? Jim Bell 1

garbaldy Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 I checked the throttle and it goes all the way to the stop, under acceleration it doesn't smoke to much at all,I was wondering if possibly the TDI has to much torque for the auto box so is detuned.

garbaldy Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 It's a Bosch pump and I thought the extra fueling was done by the boost build up on the diaphragm, that should be working fine as that's the air pipe I tapped into to get the reading on the gauge

garbaldy Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 The auld girl goes alright and tows fine, it's going to be towing again tomorrow on another collection hopefully so with a bit extra boost should be a doddle. Now around 11/12 psi with just a couple of turns on the actuator.

garbaldy Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 I went over to the yard to wash and hoover the foosty as I've sold it,Once I finished I just kept on going and washed the auld pumkin too,She looks good cleaned. Since it took seven months to sell the sierra I think I should now put this up for sale so that by July it should find a new home.
