Dave_Q Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 GR12 progress, on the road for Monday yes? Richard 1
Lacquer Peel Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 Maybe aye. There's talk of an all nighter. loserone, Dave_Q and Rusty_Rocket 3
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Splendid work LP, great shed and pics too Lacquer Peel 1
dollywobbler Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Great stuff lads! Have a good'un. Richard and Lacquer Peel 2
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 XUD in. A bit worried about wiring compatibility but I think the XUD bits, relays, etc. are standalone. dave21478, Sigmund Fraud, Tickman and 1 other 4
KruJoe Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Good work lads, ace pics an'all. You might need the all-nighter to get LP's workplace tidied up in time for the boss arriving on Monday! Dave_Q, Lacquer Peel and Richard 3
Dave_Q Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Shouldn't be much to the wiring, needs 12v up its stop solenoid, starter wiring up, and glowplugs. What have you done/ planning to do on the exhaust side? Xsara downpipe + bodgery or will the full xsara system go on? Lacquer Peel 1
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Not going well. The driveshafts aren't fully going in. Any ideas?
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 This is just like an Autoshite version of Roadkill. Ace. The Moog and Lacquer Peel 2
Dave_Q Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Not going well. The driveshafts aren't fully going in. Any ideas?Do the ends look like the Xsara shafts? If so: loserone, DeeJay and Lacquer Peel 3
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 They're in okay now and I gearbox oil isn't pishing out so it's all good. Now for electricity and plumbing. What could possibly go wrong? alcyonecorporation and KruJoe 2
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 This is just like an Autoshite version of Roadkill. Ace.Without the burnouts and V8 noise, veg smoke and diesel cackle instead. loserone, dollywobbler, The Moog and 1 other 4
Richard Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 It was a false alarm. The short driveshaft was going in as far as it should after all, the long shaft drew in when I tightened the centre bearing bolts. I'm a little concerned that the engine mounts lined up perfectly, shouldn't I have had to modify them? scdan4 1
KruJoe Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Am I alone in thinking that those early Xsaras are a really pretty design?
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Am I alone in thinking that those early Xsaras are a really pretty design? Yes. Come on man! It replaced the ZX! The Xsara is a horrible saggy pudding of a thing! Lacquer Peel 1
bub2006 Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 It was a false alarm. The short driveshaft was going in as far as it should after all, the long shaft drew in when I tightened the centre bearing bolts. I'm a little concerned that the engine mounts lined up perfectly, shouldn't I have had to modify them? From what I know xud9 and dw8 lumps mount the same.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Bastard short driveshaft still isn't going in far in enough to seal
KruJoe Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I like a ZX as much as the next man, but saggy pudding Just look at its pert little bottom! What's not to like? The facelifted front was a blobby disaster, however. loserone 1
dean36014 Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Got to agree with you about the facelift front. wonder if i change the van back to preface lift? the headlights are sodding useless too unlike the mk1 versions.
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I like a ZX as much as the next man, but Just look at its pert little bottom! CITROENXsaraCoupeVTS-2032_5.jpg What's not to like? The rear lights. The chunkiness between rear wheelarch and window line. The stubby arse. The height of the rear deck. The colour. The disparity between the line of the rear side window and the roof line. The crease above the rear lights, which is hideous in a way a Xantia is clean-cut and pretty. In short, all of it.
KruJoe Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Ooof harsh!See, I like that, all of it. It's like a baby 406 Coupe. But I wouldn't kick a Xantia out of bed for dropping biscuit crumbs either! Each to their own, eh? How's it going up north lads?Is that driveshaft in yet?
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I s'pose it does look a bit like a 406 coupe. That has been rear-ended... Or maybe a cheap Chinese knock-off of one? I'm sure* they're out on test drive at moment, hence the radio silence.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 I think Xsaras look dumpy and bland but they're nice to drive. Driveshafts are good, electrics aren't. The starter runs constantly and there are all kinds of warning lights. I think the DW8 and XUD looms will need to be combined somehow but wiring is largely beyond me.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Sad. I found a "chauffage" relay with a broken wire and no wire connected at the opposite positive or negative side , maybe that's the problem. dave21478 1
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Yep that's my guess too but does it affect the ignition circuit enough to make the starter run all the time with the key turned to position 2?
Dave_Q Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Possibly? I can't find a wiring diagram online that I can make sense of. Is it the same with the chauffage relay removed?
Sigmund Fraud Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I've only just caught up with this topic - brilliant work so far ! It sounds like you've reached the most unpleasant part of engine swaps : sorting out the electrics ! I know nothing about XUs, but a starter should only have two wires going to it - if it keeps running, the wire you've connected to the solenoid is the wrong wire (or its other end is connected to the wrong thing). In an old fashioned diesel, you should only have continuous +12v to the fuel shut off solenoid and the glow plug relay. Lacquer Peel 1
Lacquer Peel Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 The starter wiring wasn't disturbed, at least not at the starter motor end. The dash has ALL the warning lights when it turns over. I have a creeping suspicion that some of the DW8 loom has to be used. Eddie Honda 1
