im looking for a rock solid transit, ideally swb but crucially solid, miles are not too important if its been serviced well, anyone know of one?im looking for a customer so need a good one,07 plate or newer, bits of work not objected too.any shiters give me an insight on this model?as im told people buy these then put the old type 2.0 engine in,we can travel 100 miles of stoke on trent for the right van.

Even 07 on rust free is a big ask I'm afraid . All transit engines can be fragile . Camchains, pistons , flywheels etc etc . I personally wouldn't touch one with over 100k on it .

There was a report of somebody having to do welding for the first MOT on a modern transit!!!

Engines seem a mixed bag some people manage to get them to mega miles, what you have to remember is that they are a modern engine so ECU updates, pump learns, injector coding etc EGR, DPF deletes remaps etc are all service interval items, changing the oil and filter just won't cut it anymore if you want long term reliability.

You'd be hard pressed to find one that hasn't done that mileage (and more) tbh. There's also the nagging doubt of a low mileage one having been driving locally for short trips clogging it up and hammering the DMF.

I once bought a 8 year old van and ran it for 4 years without much issue, with zero rust and 49k on the clock, for a third of the market value. Still going, still in positive equity on it even now.

Wasn't a transit, mind. Some unicorns you can find, if you look in a different forest.

There are some ex BT openreach vans kicking around that haven't done mega miles. Couldn't vouch for crustiness, they don't have the best reputation for rust

Today I purchased a 96,mk5 swb low roof transit. A one owner electricians van with 67k on the clock. Few weeks MOT left and appears to drive very well and should pass another without too much fuss.

Rusty wheel arches and bottom of back doors but not as bad as my 2005 van was as certainly worth sorting out.

I managed to get it for £150. I am very pleased.

I would be, they're popular for export so doubly hard to geta  cheap one now.

'95 will be always be Mk3 to me, in fact anything from 1985 (i.e after the Mk2) to 2000/1 when the new shape ones came out are Mk3 in my eyes.

Where in the world was it? I've been looking at France for another LWB I can hack about with a modern V6/8 so a LHD to RHD conversion wouldn't be the end of the world

Ooh I can see spares on that, any idea where it is? Or if they want it gone?

Isle of Lewis somewhere.

^^^^ I bet they do a lovely bacon, egg, onions and sausage butty the size of a dinner plate and a decent coffee with only 2 options milk and sugar.

You wouldn't get that from a Citroen h van....

Ah in that case mine will be chips, onions and feta in a gyro, got to say yours does sound a healthier option.

I was thinking the very same thing today. To the Transit anoraks, if they changed the screws on the indicator lenses from starry to plain, it became a new 'Mark'. Think we're on 14 1/4 now!

Mk3 LWB's were the last proper transit, cart springs all the way round, SWB and later LWB ones went onto IFS. £150 was pretty cheap for anything that runs and drives, let alone has a chance of getting an MOT - think you got a bargain.
