pshome Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Touring Morocco i came across this place a few miles outside the oasis of Merzouga in the middle of the Sahara. This is the collection of 4x4 cars belonging to Sheik Hamad Bin Hamdan, who visits here hunting once a year. The sheik was not present, but after knocking some doors, a friendly guard opened us the door to have a look. Mint 505 Dangel and Mehari. Ford T and A? Yes, but with 4WD and 200 PS! What do we take today? Half a jeep... or double sized? the kids take this: This is for the band and "other" entertainment of the hunting party.. 4WD of course. This looks most uncomfortable... The sheiks personal "best of(f)" Squire_Dawson, fred, Lord Sterling and 28 others 31
RoadworkUK Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Saw one of those German open-air 4x4 forward control contraptions at Beaulieu once. Was itching to have a go. That looks like an extraordinary museum.
Tamworthbay Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I can't imagine princess Anne opening her doors (o er pnarrh) if a a couple of North Africans turned up to have a nose at her scimitar. That place looks amazing. Lord Sterling and pshome 2
richardmorris Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I like the mehari- only one there that doesn't need water in a desert! Quite unlike that amphibious duck! forddeliveryboy 1
sierraman Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I thought I'd drank way too much Stella again when I saw that picture of the jeep

LC Torana Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I assume the wooden blocks are to take the load off the tyres? That narrow cut-down jeep looks really appealing.Couldn't imagine trying to drive it though. Imagine how much you'd have to slow down for corners, and just shudder at the thought of a crosswind. And kudos for having the guts to go knock on the door. Hope you were able to slip them a few bob for their trouble.

There is also a sign "Auto Museum". You need to know though were to find it and knock many doors and ask around to find the guard. Of course he got a "royal" tip. DSdriver 1
DSdriver Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 The duck seems to have had a sherpa top added?
Lord Sterling Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Great stuff 'home. I love seeing my fellow Arabs and thier silly cars. I'd love to see what they make of my collection of utter shit though. The Sheikh sounds a little bit like me though... This is the collection of 4x4 cars belonging to Sheik Hamad Bin Hamdan, who visits here hunting once a year... Yep, sounds a bit like me. I only 'visit' my cars when I can be arsed. There is a friendly man looking after my cars, but he is not a security guard as such, he is the owner of the yard where they are stored, and some people do visit my car collection, but they are usually other yard users who are replacing the tarpaulin that has blown off.
