Good evening one & all!I'm in need of some old type 'Charles Wright' (pre 2001) number plates for my 2cv - the new type font sucks ass & looks terrible. Does anyone know who can supply me with a pair? I know Framptons do them, but last time i used them i had a full-on 'mare...cheers

cheapestplates - ebay seller that does 'Show plates' - perfectly legal though.

Hey Tops, if you can find someone doing what I have always referred to as the "Bestplate" font I would be interested, most garages in Jersey used this style in the eighties

It's practically impossible to find the Charles Wright font online without the word "New" in front of it, but I think this is it? - straighter and more angular than "Bestplate"

the modern, narrower type seems to be pretty similar in general design so perhaps you could find a supplier who is prepared to "stretch" the digits from 50mm to 57mm width, though certain characters might not look "right" without a bit of extra editing.

good luck!

If anyone gets prices for the pre-2001 reflective plates I'm interested - if they're cheap enough I'll get a new front one for the Accord.

On the subject of fonts, whats the type that looks like Bestplate, but the '6' and '9' s come to a sharp, truncated point at the end, rather than curling round?Seems more common on London-registered vehicles???I've still got the old Charles Wright font on my Vectra, back and front :D

I got these pressed ally ones off 'designaplate' on eBay, they were less than £20 for a pair and looked the biz IMO. No farting about with proof of ownership either! GR8 4 BANK J0BZ

I think my dad can still make the old-style ones, but doubtless he'd be a pedantic pain in the arse about doing so, sometimes he makes me take ALL the fricking documents in, sometimes he just runs them up. I guess it depends on whether the boss is looking.

With the top of the 3 digit being flat rather than curved, my local village garage still sells the stick-on towboard characters in this style, though some other digits don't quite match.

No longer a registered user as far as I can tell.

Oh my. That Transit is ace! V6 power and the shite addition of sunroof panels in the rear sides instead of windows. Liking that a lot.

Good news peeps! I have need of some new number plates so did a bit of digging on t'internet and found a couple of places to get the pre-2001 font made up (for show plates only naturally... )

This link takes you to a helpful chappie on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NUMBER-PLATES-for ... 0443387388

One of his listed fonts looked correct so I emailed him and got it sorted. I can even get the proper BS mark on too so it looks correct when I put it on and I enter my car for a concours competition at a show :wink::wink:

Worth giving him a nudge if you want the right look on your shite.

Also try this one and specify CAR-79x56 in the "TYPE STYLE" box.

Only thing is that this one might be the new font stretched so you get serifs on some letters that you might not have had originally.

They still use Charles Wright in Hong Kong IIRC. I think someone on RR got some plates made up there - it might have been Ed. Long way to go for a number plate though :)
