Marina diesel.....

There really is a Marina diesel out there and for sale.

Here it is:

And on Malta too.  Says it was assembled there.  This car is nothing to do with me - but what a car, diesel, tiny milage and looks immaculate.  Pushing it a bit with price mind.

I think they sold them in the U.K so I'm told 1.5 marine type B Series. Miniscule numbers sold though.

I knew a bloke who did a conversion on his back in the day. It used a 1.5 B series diesel. Glacially slow, and whatever he saved on fuel must've been swallowed up in time and cost of conversion

I think that one in Malta has been on sale for many months.

Many years ago my Dad worked with a nutter who liked to go round setting fire to things. He had a Marina diesel,it was also a convertible

I think it was BMC tradition to offer one of their family saloon cars as a diesel. There was the Morris Oxford diesel before the Marina.

That's what I recall reading about these things years ago. Always thought it was done as a gag Marina with an (ex-) marine diesel motor! And as others have said - glacially slow probably flatters it.

I saw a Cambridge diesel on Malta a few years back. An original not a convert (had the badge anyway). I took a picture and will look for it. Was hanging so doubt it is still on the road but in Malta anything is possible.

I'd doubt then that there's any Standard Vanguard Diesels left.

..... unless Traktor?

Both 1500 and 1800 engines often find there way into canal boats.

According to the classic & sports car A to Z of every car sold in the UK 1945 to 1980 there were 3870 Marina diesel made with a 1489 cc BMC Diesel engine between 1977 and 1980.

"Little known rare export only version of Marina saloon with old BMC diesel engine. Not only as dull as every other Marina, but much slower too! A real dud"

A rare beast with a diesel engine from a Morris Oxford.

Indeed - when I worked at the boatyard we were phasing out out Lister modular diesels in favour of these much quieter and more powerful ones :)

The BMCs didn't have a starting handle though.

The marine ones can't be exchanged into the road going ones. The cranks are usually designed for consistant low engine speeds. It'd have a more restricted governor I'd expect.
