'My First Shitter' - what car?

Fair enough, possibly daft question but following on slightly from above what is your postcode like for crime ratings?

Do you have close friends family in a low risk area you can *rent room from?

I think your going to have to do something like that as well as finding the lowest claim car as possible and any other craftiness you can think of to make it vaguely affordable.

I live (just) in greater Manchester and afaik most of the general area is shit in the insurance postcode lottery. Only place I could pull something like that is my aunt's flat, and that's in greater London, not sure on the crime risk etc there. Doing all I can to keep it low.

Convertibles are slightly better on insurance than those with solid roof, and also ones with a roof seemed to be attracting telematics policies (don't want one if I can help that). Hm.

Avoid anything with a shit crash rating if you want to stand a chance of getting a reasonable quote.

Having metal around you counts for nothing as far as insurance companies are concerned. Have a look below. I am 37, driving 20 years, clean licence, kept in drive.

1999 Vectra B 2.0: £400 pa

2003 Astra Coupe, modified, £250 pa

You wouldn't think it but the Vectra had a crap crash rating.

Megane MK1, apparently safest car in its class at the time, £20 per month.

Chevy Aveo 2012, £13 pm

2000 Corsa B, modified, only 1 litre, £400, again, shite crash rating.

Has anyone mentioned a Daewoo Matiz? Insurance was proper cheap for me on one of these. And it was an SE Plus and everything.

The thread title sounds like a misplaced marketing idea by fisher price. A broken ride on car with plastic injection moulded stomil tyres. Comes with accessories such as gaffa tape, cable ties, an AA card an MOT tester's corrosion hammer. Press the dash for authentic sounds ( eg rattling dmf, lumpy idle, etc)

Surely the current cavcraft saxo is perfect for this requirement? You'll need to get a move on, his reputation is so flawless his stock seldom hangs around long.

An SK postcode has far less risk loading than an M postcode. My folks lived in M33 and moved to a WA in the early 'Nineties; a move of less than 5 miles took £200 each off their car insurance premiums.

WA15 is the biggest risk in that area because of all the scrotey goings on in Broadheath - but then you've also got the footballers' mansions in Hale using WA14 and WA15 postcodes.

SK15....

In other news I got an email today, and it looks like I may well be sorted financially depending on what happens next...
