Xsara Picasso's (or more specifically, our Picasso)

I know there are plenty of haters of these, and that's fine, they are a bit tacky but they sure are a good workhorse. I was chatting with Chris and Bob at Chumley saying the MOT was due and I took it today, it sailed through without even an advisory. It's a 15 year old French car with 143k on the clock. We used it to do 700 miles trekking around A roads in Wales over the last 2 weeks and it still did an average of 49 mpg. All I've done on it over the last 2 years is a couple of £5 droplinks, a £30 radiator, the in tank fuel pump (which was a shit job but still only £35) and 2 new tyres. If you find a good one, they are brilliant cars.

I keep half wanting amy to want one, but she doesn't like them, but has never actually sat in one...

Their growing on me I have to say

Oh, and RONNIE PICKERING

They are not bad to drive, the high seating position is good and as long as you don't expect to corner like a Mini you will be fine. Saying that, the cheapo chinese tyres I had put on the front a couple of months ago are 10 times better than the Michelins that were on it. Far better wet and cornering grip.

Ours has never had a proper FTP, broken spring, frozen washer bottle and a self removing undersheild. Also regular but lax servicing, although it has just had full service and cambelt. You'll be unsurprised to know it's the 2.0hdi.

Apparently I'm too young to own one so i have to make do as a passenger in Landy Dad's

Mine was fine till it shat the gearbox.

Personally I prefer the Berlingo - essentially the same car but more boxy.

I learned to drive in a 51 reg 2.0HDi one of these, in the same doom blue as my Xantia.

I got my licence in 2005, and in 2009 my parents still had it. I took it to Fort William, 4-up with all of our luggage at a decent average speed and it still managed 55mpg!

In 2010 my parents traded the Xsara Picasso in for a bright blue C3 Picasso, brand new. Then last April they traded that in... for a brand new purple C3 Picasso in identical spec! (1.6HDi VTR+)

I have always liked the look of these - never understood all the hate - surely nicer than a Zafira? Never driven one though and there seem to be plenty around with rusty sills

I reckon the first ones based on Xsaras were fairly reliable, it's the ones which came after that were the fun starts.
