My car displayed in Renault showroom

This is my 25 V6 Turbo in my showroom where i work, It was on display for a month as they fancied something different.

 

It was the first time the company have every displayed an old model and it got loads of attention and comments.

 

The garage never even had a Turbo as a demo when new as one would of cost to much to put on and run!!!

I nearly bought a 21 Turbo years back before it got displayed at Jackson Edwards. I do like it when Old minters are displayed showing up the new stuff Renault Cannock have this currently.

Thats a shame. About 15 years ago I worked at a Renault Autopoint in Blackburn (Devaspeed if it means anything to anyone). They had a brand new R10 shell in their compound. When they went bust it got scrapped I think.Jackson & Edwards got their hands slapped a couple of times for importing a handful of Twingos and also a couple of Safrane BiTurbos IIRC.Kitchens in Burnley still have a Caravelle / Floride which is in their showroom at the moment.

I never get what goes through manufacturers' minds when they deem a market not worthy of receiving a particular model, Renault are notorious for it

Yeah, it is. It wasn't perfect - the autobox was faulty amongst other things - but it was entirely saveable. Sadly the person who bought it didn't really know what they were taking on. I did offer to save it, but for reasons best known to himself he scrapped it. There's nowt as queer as folk, eh?

I would love a Safrane BiTurbo. I had a 2.5 20v Safrane and that was ok, but a BiTurbo - that's just asking for a world of trouble. Want.

Blimey they bring back memories.I used to work for Stamford van hire when they were behind the dealership(selling Datsuns then), I used their workshop to rebuild an escort van in for the van hire company. As regards dealerships having older cars on display Quicks in Old Trafford did have a MK1 Fiesta on display some time ago, it looked tiny compared to the newer Fiesta's on display.

I'd be far more tempted* to buy a car from a dealer who knows a bit about their history and gives a bit of space to something not available on 29% APR and a huge final payment.

 

Guilders VW in Sheffield often has Beetles and Mk1 Golfs on display next to the new stuff, sure they had a Scirocco GTII a while back too.

 

And TC Harrison Ford in Derby had that Cortina '80 for sale, delivery mileage and unregistered. think it ended up being sold and put on a 53 plate?

It most certainly would. The Safrane was completely unmemorable but nice enough to make me think "Mmmm, BiTurbo".Dropping a T5 lump into it crossed my mind a few times.I've just had to find a pic of the thing to remind me what it looked like.

I suspect, Reg, that Renault UK didn't bother importing the Safrane BiTurbo because it would be a faff to train the dealer mechanics, print all the sales brochures and stock enough spare parts if they were only going to sell 7 of them over the car's lifetime. I wonder if the turbos got in the way of re-routing the steering rack for RHD, as is often the case.

I thought this wasn't possible unless the vehicle was type-approved/met emissions standards etc? More likely is that it would've got an age-related mark i.e. Ford confirm the month + year of build and DVLA issue a registration in the same way as if you were importing a vehicle.Although that wasn't the case once upon a time and you got all manner of old stuff having the current year identifier on the plates

I know of a couple of Mk3 Polos (1991-1994) on a 1999 T plate, a chap up the road from me has a Y-plate Escort (even the 'last of the line' ones were all on X, and this doesn't look like one of those) and a twat at work has a 205GTI, 1990 precat model on a 1994 L reg.

The Cuore I have was last built in 1997, but you could get them from R to V plates depending on when the dealer got around to register them - quite funny to see a V-plate for sale knowing that it could have been built before my R-reg one.

As I've mentioned previously, I used to regularly see a metallic green MkV Cortina estate around town on a B plate, when the MkI Sierras could be had from Y reg onwards. Pretty sure the Cortina based P100s could be had upto a C plate too!

Remember the dark red R10 Auto with the push button gearbox stored at the back of Jackson and Edwards.Then there was the mk1 J/K reg Renault 6 in silver that turned at their Northwich branch and was restored at the paintshop at Altrincham. I turned up there a few days after they moved it and the master cylinder had failed - shit! The entire front end was fookeried! It had looked great too!Was offered a 9000 mile R11 Auto by them not long after - wish i'd said yes.Still use them (now Lookers) for all my Renault bits cos Steve in parts is the only person who still knows the old stuff - plus he's a really nice guy.
