This looks bob on unless you forget where you park it.

It probably hides in plain sight.

Its a problem Volksy is having with his Mitsubishi. His problem is made worse by the fact he has to park at the airport everyday of course.

Its the sort of tging I should be looking for if I am to start MTBing again.

Fuel economy stings after diesels but good outweighs bad

I'm sure an XUD would slot right in.

I'll manage. If it turns out to be a keeper then LPG will suffice.

The drive back in the Puma was spirited. Goggle maps times the journey at 69 minutes. I took 55.

It looks like a perfectly good runner, don't be tempted to replace anything though, cheap cars stay cheap when you put your time into them not parts.

The full leather option though is a throw back and kia tied themselves in knots at the time trying to explain what full leather meant when half the interior never came from any animal, it's clearly imitation.

Right folks. Plan of action is this. Cambelt tensiobers, water pump (have to get someone to do that, don't fancy it myself) service and a atf change. Gearbox works fine just reverse very occasionally won't engage. Come out of R and back in again and its fine. Bodywork will be after

Transmission update. When hot and gears all cycled through the dipstick shows about a quarter. I'm guessing it should be full. Fluid change won't hurt, can't be anything too catastrophic. I hope!

Posted

Is there a cold and hot level marked on the dip stick?

Posted

The dipstick has a full and low mark for 20°c and 65°c. I was going off the 65°c Marker due to being hot. I'll top it up first.

Posted

Just top it up to the mid point or just beyond on the hot marker. Should be ok.

what colour is the ATF? does is smell burnt at all?

if cherryade and no are the answers then a topup should be sufficient

if brown and/or yes change fliud

Posted

Id change it. I changed the fluid in the xm's auto box and it did improve it somewhat

Posted

OK I will do. How do you check correct level though as I don't want to over or underfill and need it warm to check level?

Posted

There is a Kia owners forum mate, or phone a dealer. That can't hurt.

Yeah, should b e a lovely cherry colour.

Posted

It looks red ish but not cherry red. I'll change it first. Safe to fill through dipstick as can't find another fill point? Tempted to leave damage on it to be honest. I enjoy being left alone and no one pushing out in front!

Threatening behaviour does work. Got to work and reverse wouldn't engage again. I swore and threatened it. Went to pick some atf up at lunch and it seems to be getting better. Strange

Does it definitely just need standard ATF or some fancy Liquified Unicorn type fluid?

Only ever did one auto transmission change (BMW 5 Series about 15 years ago) and we merely drained, measured the amount that came out and replaced that with equal amount of new stuff. We repeated that two or three times as you can't really get all the fluid out of all the oil galleries and capillaries and it worked well after.

EDIT - think standard stuff is Ok

Possibly worth looking on the Bay for Mannol stuff as that seems perfectly OK and is much cheaper than the normal Castrol/Halfords options should you decide to do a full change instead of just topping up

Changing oil on an auto is like switching a pc off and on again, always worth doing as a first attempt at solving problems.

Definitely going to change it. I've found reverse works if you wait a few seconds after engaging.

Posted

I would deffo recommend measuring what comes out and replacing the same amount, will probably need doing 2 or 3 times to get it a nice colour as you can't get it all out at once.

Fill through dipstick is fine.

Delayed engagement is often because the fluid level is too low - or possibly the wrong type.
