darn it, didn't read it properly - just hoping for the mystery I guess though right enough you do need to renew the SORN each year.That bus is superb and looking at the old glory pic it really could be the same one! even the motif on the side near the wheel arch is the same (I know there could have been a fleet) but the Reg plate etc... hope it is the same one.

Are you one of these guys that used to come down to the bus depot i used to work at? It was amazing the stuff these guys knew about the buses. To me the buses all looked the same, but these guys knew which depot they had been to before mine, what colour it used to be and if the seat trim had changed.Personally, I can understand a nostalgic obsession about old buses like on this thread, but found it hard to get excited about a Dennis Dart (oh, number 81, this used to be a night bus in London and it was in a green livery). But saying that we did have a wreck of a National still in service (on an x plate i think) and i loved it. It drove like kak but was old enough to have some personality i suppose.Wish i had bought it when it went out of service. Apparently it went for under a grand. Could probably weigh it in form more than that these days. But i would have loved to have converted it into a mobile home.

We used to get taken to school on some right rough old crocks, (some of which were ex-Lothian Craig, as they were burgandy and had maps of edinburgh stuck inside them)

 

Most were Leyland Atlantean. Ocassionally got the odd Bristol Double Decker, which seemed a bit pokier lol.

The school buses around here were proper crocks too, they were using Leyland Nationals and an Atlantean up until about 2005.

Now they've moved on to bland brand-new Dennis-Alexanders and 10 year old ex-Citylink Volvo coaches. For shame.

To be fair people probably come on here and laugh at us getting excited over a Morris Ital or Renner 25. Horses for courses and all that.

 

However i like the way that if it not a 'Van derived car' of their liking they will remove it from the photo pool

Those Volvo B10s were awful things. The back hung about 10ft behind the rear wheels so if you took a tight corner you wiped out everything behind you and the air brakes would disappear with alarming regularity (dont worry there was an alarm warning you the air pressure was getting low).Did not really bother me in the depot but when the air pressure went tits up out on the road the driver would have to sit there holding up traffic waiting for the pressure to build up again. Bunch of arse.Most fun bus was the late 80's early 90's Dennis Dart. Crap for ferrying around punters as a truly awfully built bus but on the wet oily depot floor GR8 4 PWRSLIDS.

Great spots, the mouldly looking stuff looks ace! I have some great memories of going to school on the buses - Leyland Nationals, Bristol VRs, and ex-Bournemouth Yellow Bus Alanteans in Provincial livery! A couple of the buses that I went to school on have been preserved and there is even a model of one of the Series Ones (ex-London Transport) available - might get it one day. It was late 90s before we got a few used Series II Nationals here!The roofs leaked like mad on some of the doubles we went on as they were used as open top buses during the summer holidays. Back then a lot of the buses still had rear doors - we were forever opening them up and sneaking on without paying or opening them up before the bus had stopped and jumping off

No, the anorak is more protection against the elements than a mark of office My ignorance next to the real rivet counters would shame a lesser man Buses don't do too much for me, other than the old half-cab double deckers that they bring out at places like Lytham St Annes in the summer they don't seem to have much character. But luxury coaches are another thing, I love to see the lone AEC with Burlingham Seagull body peeking out at a rally between the rows of Routemasters and Atlanteans.

I remember making my parents stop their car whilst we were in Skye to snap similar YSF103S (ex-Fife Scottish) in 2001. My then local bus company Midland Bluebird withdrew the last of theirs in 2000 so I hadnt seen one for quite a bit The .600 Leyland engine always sounded good on these Leopards

 

Quite a few have been preserved now, from a variety of fleets which is encouraging. I think I must have about 13 EFE models of these

I can remember YSF103S when it was new.It's the open weekend at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum this weekend. You get to ride on vintage buses all day if you want, what more could you ask for?

Either the first or the second bus I drove on public roads (469 was the other one) Someone had wrapped standard black insulation tape around 100% of the steering wheel which kept ripping skin off my fingers where it had lifted. Pile of shite Last heard of on its way to that Irish nutter with like 200 dead vehicles in a field near Cork.

120Y estate is a fairly serious spot! Very rare nowadays, can't recall if that's one that has been in the DOC at some point. Maybe it's just something that's managed to cling onto life through being useful and reliable and they've been happy to keep patching it, always the best sort of spot.

Super-rare as well - the Ministry of Health (who owned them all) recalled all the surviving ones and crushed them in the 1990s, didn't they? Worth saving, possibly, though it's still officially government property!Has anyone seen one on anything other than a P-plate?
