A Daf 340 for a retro metro, now with Vauxhallage

You are mental.

A 998cc 5dr metro is a painfully slow lardbucket with WWD (wrong wheel drive)

Having driven one a few times before, leave the house an hour earlier than usual.

Austin Metro equals worst gearbox in the world.

But I would still swap the Volvo for that one.

Why have one when you can have them both!!

Yes, the 998 is slow compared with the 1275, but it will still feel like a go-kart compared to the Olvov

I'm normally all for the swaps but I know how much you dislike being laughed at for driving shit cars so I imagine the ridicule of driving a yellow Metro might be a little too much.

I would swap only because I haven't owned a Metro like that yet but think you could probably get a better swap with the 340 for something else.

I agree - with the very minor change outlined above.

Not much is (un)cooler than driving a yellow 5dr Metro! The 340 is ace and if it was an early series 2 ( pretty sure MK1s are silly money now) I would say keep it but I agree the Metro is a bit more retro!

I've done some questionable swaps over the last year or so but I think with the Metro you have the potential of getting bored rather quickly and end up with a car that nobody will want to buy.

I swapped the tata for a rascal then a rover metro for the tata plus trailer then sold all 3 and ended up buying the tata at a later date.

I swapped the Niva for the espace then swapped for the xantia then swapped for the 440 then swapped for the 306 then got the 440 and ended up with a Subaru Forester.

I started with an e36 318is, swapped for a Fiat 127, then a 240 and finally a W123.

On the other hand the metro has a good pcd for wheels and you have a set of ats classics which would look good on the car.

Wife had 340 then a Metro. I never liked 340 but I can understand those who do. I'd have a Metro, of course they're flawed but immensely characterful. If it's too slow it's easy to make it quicker. These two cars are like chalk and cheese, theres nothing like either today.

A yellow Metro with Minilites is the coolest thing EVER. Don't care what the haters say.

In all SRSness, I like the Metro.

Do what you want! It's your choice.

It will come without the cav slabs but i dont care, hopefully my first ALLVXLSRSHIT!

I'd sooner have the Metro but each to their own. They are rocketing up in value for nice ones and they are pretty good fun to drive altthough a 1275cc would be more fun.

That Cavalier looks lovely! If you need any interior trim, I'm just about to start breaking a C plate GL saloon that has the biscuit bumpers/brown interior trim combo that your beige beauty has. The outer panels are good too, but a different colour. Give me a shout...

Thanks Austin Rover!
Ive just never been into metros etc, many years of them getting slated has probably rubbed off on me, ive wanted a mk1 or mk2 cavalier for a while

Volvo, Metro or Cavalier, you can't really lose.  Looking forward to seeing the Cav on some better wheels, original steels would look better than black cavslabs.  Anything would look better than black cavslabs.

Yeah it does look horrendous, its coming on standard steelies thankfully

Dibs on the Cav when you want to move it on. Always wanted a Mk2 Cav.

I liked the Metro but I prefer the Cav! My parents owned examples of all 3 cars in this thread in the 1980s!

The Mk2 Cavalier was the second most disappointing I've ever driven, just pipped by the Mk1 Astra.

I could see that they were a great leap forward in many ways but they seemed to be a leap back in too many others.

It's good to see one now though.

World's easiest clutch change. Brilliant design. I got it down to under 15 minutes from start to finish.

In fact, I'm sure I've still got a set of clips if you want them Mike?
