5. I put a box in the boot and it fell through the floor.

Bloody hell! What was in the box, depleted Uranium?

A Nikon D60 with a Kood grip. At least we know where tank man went.

I contacted the previous registered owner of my 75 (I'd bought from a trader) to confirm that I hadn't just purchased a lemon. A new exhaust, front springs, gearbox oil and cambelt in the last 18 months yet he'd traded it in at a dealer for peanuts. Turns out he was just a nutter who wanted the benefit of a new car after doing all the preventative maintenance on his mint 75. Doubly nuts too as he'd chopped it for a new MG6... He asked if I wanted to sell it back. No chance guv.

If the 75 had exploded you'd have still got the better deal.

Eh?  My knowledge* of depleted Uranium comes from me finding out they put it in the control surfaces of early 747s (and probably other planes).

It was a very poor joke regarding the '6's Chinese origin and the mystery of Tiananmen Square.

I did so.

There were no brochures.  There were no people.

Nothing unusual about that.

I went on a tour of what was left of the works a few years back. There were 15 or so people, almost all possible customers to be flogged Sino-British shite, on this tour. When we came back to the Sales* Centre* there was no sales people there to answer questions or give the hard sell. There was one bloke (not with the rest of our group), kitted out in a MG BTCC jacket, that actually came all the way there to have a tour and then buy a car. But the sales people were nowhere to be found.

JURASSIC PARK

Alan P should have had an MG6 in Alpha Papa.

^ There was a white one from the same registration sequence for sale at £5795.  Nearly six large for a five-year-old "management" car.

The Talbot Tagora of its day...We will be foaming at the mouth to own one in 25 weeks time.

EFA. Partly because they'll be harder to find in 25 years time than Tagoras will be in 25 years.

I'm pretty sure I've seen an MG6. Or was it an Insignia? They might have had a load at Bo'ness hillclimb a few years back but the 6 was so utterly unremarkable that I've forgotten it.

Blimey.  That one is on SORN and has no MOT details - perhaps it did not make it that far.

I had a test drive while the laguna was "resting" back in january.

They had two cars outside and one in the "showroom" which was actually just a desk and a MG banner inside a storage unit round the back of a big Citroen dealers.

I had a drive of the grey car, I agree that the key is the nastiest thing ever and it took several goes to make it work because the salesman didn't know how it went either. You put the key in, the dash lights up. The end of the key has a start/stop logo on it so you press it again. It pops back out. To start you have to insert and press in one continuous motion and as mentioned if you stall the damn thing you have to take the key out and try again.

After the rather dull drive, the hard sell started. First they said I could have £2000 off the list price if I p/Xd any car with MoT. Then they said I could have £1500 off if I promised not to lumber them with a Laguna II with a siezed engine.

I still wasn't convinced. Then they tried to sell me the black car in the picture outside - 4 months old, 2000 miles. Someone brought it back and accepted whatever price they offered, could be mine for under 10K.

Six months on, I am driving a MG. Just not a new one.

as a fan of autoshite and anything out of the ordinary I really like these to be honest, I think they certainly stand out as somat a little differant. Would I splash any of my hard earned cash on one (not a chance)

I'll happily wait a few more years when they are down at the lower end of my price range (which is not a lot)

At least being a management car it would have been well looked after and all the faults would have been rectified.

Right?

I'm sat with my mate here and between us we've bought dozens of MGs and Rovers.  My mate took a 24hr test drive as we were both considering a new/used 6 at the time.  Longbridge supplied a pre-reg TSE that wasn't ex-Daily Rental.  The N/S/F wheel bearing was so worn despite the exceptionally low mileage, there was play in the hub.  Is this acceptable?  No.  Was this unusual?  No.  We both bought something else.

Coopers (you're showing your age there) SMA Newcastle, what you actually mean is WILSONS.  I still get my dinner for free there on a Thursday.

Wilsons garage, I remember admiring a white, wheeltrimmed Metro 1275 sport in their window, must have been about 1988

Re - all the discussion about the MG3 engine - it's fitted with the NSE engine (Nanjing Small Engine) which is not related in anyway to the K series. It has a chain driven DOHC with variable valve timing - does this tie up with a GM or Suzuki engine?

As for sales the MG3 is outselling all of Subaru's models and, as mentioned elsewhere, came 10 out of 200 in AutoCars satisfaction survey last year, so they can't be that bad. They are quite common around here sold by Maple Garage who actively advertise them in the local rags.

The MG6 is being "replaced" by the MG GS which is another pretend 4x4 which seem to be oh so popular nowadays.

See - http://mg.co.uk/gs  I don't think the pictures on the website are too flattering - it looks like a smug duck billed platypus to me.
