gm
it looks like you are well prepped for it, I wish I could have come along too, maybe next time did you track down any fancy tyres yet or just using the rainsports ? I'd be tempted to bung those worn maranghonis on even just for a few laps to see what a difference they make - bit of pain transporting them but probably worth it. have fun anyway, lots of pics and vidos plz The Moog and Tickman
The Moog
Not had any spare cash to get tyres. Found a set in Shrewsbury of nankangs ns2rs that will get at the end of the month. One of the tyres has lost a massive chunk of tread so not going to risk them and stick to rain sports. Weather is looking good
The Moog
Fantastic day again. Only took a few photos as was mostly driving. Bucketeer took loads including the track 2cv. Downside to going for the day was the 5:30am departing time. Two of these cars went on track This was quick round the course, not sure what was under the bonnet This was quickUntil it ended up in the gravel Bucketeer had pleasure of being pit crew, driving coach and also car transporter for the day. gm
sounds like a great day out. I quite fancy building one of those Exocet kits - it's based on mx5 running gear and subframes so (in theory) easier to get through the iva than a full on kit car. they reckon about £3k plus a donor car can see you on the road
The Moog
Bucketeer track photography Sunrise over Huddersfield Our little crew for the day This 2cv was awesome The Moog fleet This mini was interesting - quick with straight cut gears so whined massively This was quick - about 20 seconds a lap quicker than me This turned up as we were leaving this single seater got blue flagged loads as didn't get out the way for the really quick cars Track action This metro was loud and fast Such a fast car As before not sure what was under the bonnet but quick This turned up but didn't run The guy who had this had a lovely trailer and boy was it proper quick Cars not photographed - few brand new Porsches, many mx5s including a nice turbo one, Audi TT full track car - fastest thing on the day, some saxo track cars and a ford ST that whined under acceleration. As an aside whoever has the job of putting the blocks in the urinal got over excited! Overall did a tank of fuel in the mx5 over the day with about 120 miles ISH on track. No spins for me (2 for my mate) and got definitely quicker over the day. Tution really helped as got me more composed and thinking about things differently. Brake pads were pretty much shot at the end of the day. The fluid dropped by about 3mm over the course of the day. I think the front caliper sliders might be sticking which would be perhaps reason for brake travel. Even with a cooler managed to boil the PAS fluid. And I absolutely love my mx5. It drove 112 miles there, did 120 miles on track then 112 miles home without missing a beat. gm
With a bit of free time this afternoon, I got the mx ready for Saturday's track shenanigans. It's tricky to choose which tyres to fit at this time of year (the road tyres have suffered multiple laps too on previous sessions) But the bbc say it's going to be nice so we'll go with the semi slicks and have some fun Who's all coming along ? dome
320touring
Those semi slicks were gripping better than most wets in the rain when I drove this.. It is a lovely wee thing.

reb
A friend of mine has procured a 1.4 16v clio for track and hillclimb use that I have access to on the basis I provide mechanical support. It's surprisingly quick and handles like someone spread superglue on the tyres. The airbox looks like a cheese grater, so it sounds far beefier than it really is under load. Hopefully we'll have it on track soon and not bin it immediately. gm
Another cracking day up at Knockhill this afternoon, between myself and Tickman the little mazda notched up over a hundred laps, each one with tyres squealing I was pleased to see v9photoworks was in attendance with his fancy camera but it appears he doesn't find the mx much of a subject Some hard core cars and drivers made for an exciting day with a few too many stoppages as folks got carried away but great fun. Tickman
It was an excellent day and the weather was amazing for so late in the year. I slowly gained a bit of confidence in pushing the MX round the track and gm decided at one point to miss not only 10 but passed 11 and possibly 12 while pushing really hard which resulted in slightly hot brake fluid and all four wheels too hot to touch. Excellent day finished off with curry so as near as perfect as can be. Many stoppages were had and a MINI came back in looking battered at one point, turns out that it met the tyre wall at about 30-40 side on and hadn't fallen over like a Civic had done on a previous day. Thanks again to gm. davehedgehog31, dome and gm
gm
the brakes were a bit 'poor' on the way home, still meat on the pads but the heat must have done for the fluid, maybe I'll bang some posh stuff in next time Tickman

gm
There was plenty of anglez when I buggered about with the tyre pressures and got it wrong - I've never lost it at the bottom of duffus before but very nearly munched on the gravelz 320touring
The Moog
Looks ace very jealous! Especially as in kInross this weekend, so could have sneaked a pass. Does this mean Tickman is back to browsing mx5s? What did you run as tyre pressures? loserone and gm
gm
I wouldn't blame him if he was we started the tyres off at 26 cold but after a few good laps they were up to 30.5 hot and a bit too squeely, I dropped them back to 26 hot but it was too far, grip was ok but the sidewalls were just too squishy. pumping them back up to 28 hot seemed to work out just right, no more messing was needed and we got on with racking up the laps. still a bit squeely but so controllable right up to and way beyond the limit 320touring and The Moog
The Reverend Bluejeans
I love Blyton, a cracking circuit. I do a charity event every August (Help for Heroes) in my Compact and generally manage to shag a set of tyres and pads - for 2019 I need a set of those new Toyo 888’s and some harder pads. T1R’s are just shite in the wet and not that great in the dry either. This year I was hanging onto the slower MX5’s but need that extra bit of grip. Blyton, Croft and Cadwell are my faves and will be giving Anglesey a go as well.
