Thanks for the advice.
My only other track experience is a few laps of the Nurburgring in my first MX5. I think a proper track day will be quite different though.
I remember quickly realising the experience was better by trying to be smooth and flowing, the speed would follow.
About 18 years ago I was obsessed one summer with going up the strip at Crail in my Rover 214. That was definitely cheaper than proper track days.

I booked Knockhill for the 28th of April based on the announcement of restriction changes earlier. It is a beginners session. Despite having been to Knockhill loads I’ve never actually been on track, even for an experience. I’m really looking forward to it.

Who's organizing that one? Will need to get some booked up.

You'll love it. Just listen to the instructions in the briefing, stay out of the way of faster cars on the straights(who are generally very well behaved) and have fun!

It is just a Knockhill organised session.
It is a beginners session which is perfect for me.
I had a look on Track Scotland recently but they haven’t got any new dates up.

I imagine the first one will be mobbed, unlike a couple of years back where I appear to have the track to myself (from about 2:30 in)

that little Mazda is taking some abuse :)

now, which one should I take ?

or maybe..........?

would need to go on a trailer so probably not (yet)

bookings are now open - I've got myself signed up for 26th April, the mx5 is now my daily driver so I'd better be careful :)

Plenty of time between now and then for you to do something sensible and buy something else.

That seems excellent value.

it is, although they make up for it by selling 50 places so it can get busy at times - you might spend ten minutes queueing at the pit lane but some sessions don't sell out and you can get as much track time as you like. this one will no doubt be very busy but I couldn't resist :)

Since the July session was rained off, I’ve transferred my booking to Tuesday 31st August, let’s hope for a bit of decent weather this time.

@DVee8 @Shirley Knott @Mi30n

The passenger / co-driver seat is currently available if anyone has the day off and fancies coming along for some squealy tyre hooliganism ?

Also @DVee8 do you know anything about this event ?
https://www.durhamautoclub.co.uk/page/upcoming-events/

The WEARSIDE CLASSIC and TARGA rallies

Will be held at the NISSAN Plant in Washington on 5th September 2021

I’ve messaged to ask if spectators are allowed, might be worth a look out ?

No I don't, but it looks fun

“Spectators are allowed but only at the test next to the Nissan sports and social club. Only competitors and Marshall’s are allowed down to the test track.”

Not sure on times, I’ve emailed someone else in the club for more info

a  few snaps from tonights session down at Teeside - a really good turnout with a good mix of cars and (surprisingly) good driving standards.

shame it seems that I was using a potato-cam :(

and a couple of quick video clips, I can't imagine the roof down mx5 driver was very pleased with a face full of smog every lap

great fun, great company, what a grand day out !

So, about 3 weeks ago I got a text from @gm, asking if I fancied a trackday on the 22nd . No mate I can't its junior V8's 18th birthday and MrsV8's is planning a canal boat long weekend.

Now as N01 son was born at half term and N02 born at Christmas, both my fault so I'm told ,it's bloody expensive. This was put on hold. So a message to @gm  is it still on?

Fast forward to 07.30 this morning  we are standing outside @gm place loading spare wheels and tools into my X-trail. No to bad considering he didn't get home till 23.30ish last night after his own new car  collection. Then icening a birthday cake.  A  man of many talents.

We arrived at the track with plenty of time to sign in. After the safety briefing,  we were told to follow the safety car for 3 taps. Now this turned out to be Ben driving and Mark. 1st car behind the safety car.

What a great day and a BIG THANK YOU to @gmfor allowing us to thrash his excellent Mazda MX5,  for lap after lap, only coming in to swap drivers , check fluids ,  let it cool down or for food. Great fully delivered by MrsV8.

i changed the brake pads on Monday, it's fair to say we had our moneys worth out of them :)

wheels are manky

I normally use Brembo or Pagid pads but all europarts had in stock last time was bottom of the range brand Eicher - I wasn't expecting much of them but they did perform well, stopping power was almost as good as the Brembos and we didn't get any fade, despite giving them some serious hammer.  I had a set of part worn Pagids in my spares stash which have gone on for now, there are still a few trackdays this year, I'll bung on a new set if we do another session.
