I've seen on facebook that the Matra Museum has been hit by devastating floods, I will try and get photos later, but many exhibits are wrecked :(

that shit news.... having seen the pics on telly, they are having quiet a bad time of it over there.

i hope that the damaged exhibits can at some point be repaired.

They've done a good job lifting the cars up on those blocks though..hopefully in time. Didn't see the F1 cars (the Jackie Stewart cars and the later Ligiers) or the sports cars from the early 70s. Hope they were able to get to them.

Pity :(

What a shame. I've been meaning to go there as we pass close by on our way south. We were planning to go in July this year but what with the floods and the petrol shortages it may not happen.

Ugh, that's awful. There were some really special cars in the downstairs bit that is shown in the video. :-(

Proper shame, that. I guess pumps would have been as effective as chocolate tea pots with the water level so high?

What a terrible shame, they obviously tried hard but never had a chance against 1.2m of floodwater.  It's surreal to see what's happening in France and Germany at the moment when it's been hot, sunny and bone dry here for days now (at least in the south west).

Even the Louvre's had to close...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36432429

Not Good. We went there last year, it was a great museum and even Mrs SL was saddened when I told her about the flooding.

When we visited the racing cars were on the upper floor:

Down in the basement were mainly prototypes, Espace, Rancho and Bagheera as I recall. I think they might have moved some stuff around since we went though, as the Espace Sbarro was upstairs.

Some unique and amazing stuff there, can only wish them well in getting up and running again.

The bloke on the video said the cars in peril were stored in the basement, and that they'd managed to get them up on blocks before the water got to them, and they were now pumping it out. So I guess the stuff upstairs in the main room is OK.

Hopefully the flood-water was fairly clean and they can be carefully dried out, if it's heavily contaminated water then not so sure. As long as they haven't been floating around bumping into each other, it should be possible to get them looking ok again, but I would imagine the work involved will be considerable especially if they all have to be stripped out/dismantled.

It's not the first time a car museum has been devastated by a natural occurrence

I take my hat off to these guys, they are clearly busting their balls trying to save the exhibits from damage & I wish them all the best. It must be properly heartbreaking to see this for real, even more so if you involved directly.
