1998 Peugeot 306 LX TD Estate - £150 - P'boro

Anyone want to take my 306 TD Estate on?

I need a rough but serviceable estate car to make 7 or 8 heavily laden trips between P'boro and the NW.

This is more like a mini project. It's saveable, but not by me.

It's £150 and has no MoT. No swaps, no raffles and no deliveries.

Test fails range from the fairly serious (corrosion near the suspension mounts) to stupidity on the part of the previous owner (rear tyres fitted backwards).

Here be the stats:

1.9 XUD, Lucas pump, 218k. V5 in my name.

The engine is strong despite the high mileage. It'll drive you anywhere (to a pre-booked place of repair).

More pictures later today.

Just genuinely curious (as not really wanting it), how does having the rear tyres fitted backwards corrode the suspension mount? I can't really figure out how that can happen.

Edit: Just re-read your post. A internal Brain vs English fail on my part.

I don't think it does, that's a separate fail

Someone handy could save this. The engine must be worth near £150 on its own.

A set of part worns, a pair of scrapyard mirrors, a new exhaust rubber and a tickle with the welding stick would see most of the problems sorted.

That fail sheet in full:

Reason(s) for failure

nearside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)

rear brake application uneven (3.7.B.2)

Brake load sensing valve seized (3.6.E.3)

offside Obligatory mirror seriously damaged, affecting the rear view (8.1.2a)

Exhaust system not adequately supported (7.1.1)

offside front Direction indicator incorrect colour (1.4.A.2f)

Registration plate lamp not working (1.1.C.1d)

Battery insecure (1.9.1)

nearside rear passenger door cannot be opened from outside the vehicle (6.2.B.1c)

nearside front Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)

nearside front Tyre(s) incorrect because different size tyres are fitted on the same axle. (4.1.A.1a)

nearside rear Tyre not fitted in accordance with side wall instructions (4.1.D.1f)

offside rear Tyre not fitted in accordance with side wall instructions (4.1.D.1f)

offside front Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)

nearside front Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)

offside rear Shock absorber insecure (2.7.2b)

nearside front Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)

Sounds like a scrapyard raid for caliper and suspension strut, a few bulbs, ball joints and an exhaust hanger and then messing round with door opening rods and underseal, then take it to a more lenient MOT tester. :)

James Brown it and hire a van?

I was gambling this (or another cheap estate) would be cheaper than hiring a van 7 or 8 times.

I did the same with that 406 estate. It worked out much cheaper than a van. It's good logic.

You have to buy a serviceable car and not a project, though. I bought the latter.

That fail sheet looks like a lot of hassle, especially for a car you can buy for £150-£300 with an MOT.

You can get an 1.9 XUDT estate with a long test for under £300? There weren't any when I looked.

It's still a fixable car for £150.

I'll try it on eBay and bin it if no-one wants it.

Make me offers, lads.

Oh there's one

without a turbot but does sterling duty lugging cement mixers etc to Portugal. It's a MESS inside as the Howard rotovator weighed 250kg and didn't want to go in then pissed out all its gearbox oil. Recent belt/tensioner/waterpump combo. Dash has been attacked by previous owner and heater fan does not work. Yours for £199-50p,  MOT should be august but could bung it in for another and only the number plate has HGF. Presently gathering moss in GU2 7XH

Ye. That is of interest.

Hate to do a felly but could a rear wiper be luzzed on it (not for MoT requirements, but would like a lengthier test).

How minging is minging?

WTF do I do with mine, then?

Sell the engine.

Or post up some p8cs of the welding needed.

Ive a set of good winter tyres here on pug rims for £60 if that helps anyone?

Wiper was removed pre MOT so should still be in the seat pocket. I'll try and get a few internal pics at lunchtime but it is wonderfully minging.

A lot of mither for very little return.

Realistically, what will taking the engine out net me? Will the mileage not hurt its chances?

Each to their own but I wouldn't bother. Must yards won't want it without the engine, or certainly won't want to pay for it, and you'll be stuck with an engine in your way that nobody will buy.

Take the cat and battery off and let CTB do their bit.

These are brilliant cars with loads of useful space, great on fuel and dead reliable. Sadly, they seem to be be valueless to the great unwashed.

Great googly balls, that's some advanced ming.

Would the £200 get the shit tipped out of it? Am I gonna need a haz mat suit?

I would love* to rock up at the local full valet for £20 place with this and ask how long will it take, can i wait?

Nobody will buy the engine loose out of the car like that, if I was buying an engine is want to hear it running. It's hard work trying to sell a car like that with known obvious problems. I've the same situation with getting rid of the old Focus. Whoever is going to give me £200 on a car they know needs £600 spending on it for it when they could get a decent one for £6-700 anyway.

Maybe the radio will fit a ZX ?

Nae. I have head units that will fit, mind.
