London shite clearout.

One of my mates is having a clearout as he`s got too many. He isnt on the internet so he asked me if I knew how to put stuff online, so I thought you like might be up for some cheapo shite.

These are the main ones hes decided can go:

1994 Corolla Kudos
 XLi 1.3 3-door, 60k, MOT- 10/16
Mechanically perfect, but ex- Cat C, (tatty, osr corners paint doesnt quite match).
£175.

2000 Civic 1.4is  106k, MOT- 11/16.
No rust, clean inside & out, AC works, but no stereo..
Issues are: clutch juddering & high, needs rear bushes for next MOT & noisy front driveshafts need changing.

£175

2001 Fiesta 1.7TD 5-door 94k MOT- 11/16
No issues, cheap-ish tax (£140 a year)
£495

1994 Golf CL  1.8 5-door grey, years MOT.
Long term lady owner who barely used it.only showing 9000 miles (!?) with last 6 or 7 MOT`s
Has a new clutch. Has 5 spoke alloys, new-ish tyres & no issues, Has PAS, central locking, but keep fit windows. Clean all round.
£750

I`ll try & get pics over the weekend.

Well, it checks out with the story, an older lady who commutes by train & only used it to go shopping once a week, with it sat in an underground car park 99% of the time.

He did say it drives like new & is in unusually clean condition, I couldnt see properly as it was almost pitch black when I just went, I`ve had to lighten the pics considerably.

I`m guessing you want a Mk2, not Mk3?

Looking forward to daytime pics of the Golf.  It must have been 1994 when I last saw one sitting at showroom height and without the reflection of a thousand supermarket dings down the sides.  Pretty sure the alloys are one of the original VW options, sure I've seen a few standard floppytops of the same age with them on.  Plain bumper Golfs like that would normally have got steels and trims instead.

I could be interested in that Corolla as I'm looking for some cheap wheels to get me back from London to the North East. Anymore details ?

9000 mile Golf
Not as good bodily as I`d hoped, but interior still looks & smells new, & MOT`s go back to 2001 which seem to make the mileage being right (about 2600 in 2001, 5000 in 2003):

Golf is a real timewarp, that interior brings back memories of one I rented for 2 weeks back in 1994. That's a good example to buy and burrow away in a barn somewhere for a decade.

I`m no veedub fan, but even I`m tempted.. Its got a lot of potential.

The Corolla is tatty, but it`ll do as a shleper, & its one of them cars that you can leave anywhere & not care if the local chavs key it or a 4x4 reverses into the front of it...  & you know it`ll probably keep going indefinitely with minimal work, pretty much the same deal with the Civic after the clutch, bushes & driveshafts are done.

The Fiesta is a good long distance commuter as it`ll happily do 50-60mpg on a run.

I`d say the Golf is a great project & probably a good long term investment if your into that kinda thing.

Christ, 9000 miles on that Golf and it's already got rot bubbling up in various places, plus an underseal tidemark and obvious MoT welding on the sills. Has it been kept in the sea? I rarely see rusty ones, and most have much higher mileage than that one.

L plate and placca non-body coloured bumpers = early = shit underseal and lack of galvanising.

Sill, singular, a 4" patch on the NS one, if you look closely you can also see the dirt build up from where it sat unused for so long too, behind the rear wiper arm & along the edges of the side rubbing strips for example.

I must admit, the few rust patches did disappoint me, but all of it is at a stage where its easily do-able, even by a novice, as its all on easy to repair sections, virtually all flat, easily accessible places.

Tidy it all up, put it in front of a white background, ebay it for eleventy billion squids. Sorted.

You can see how these Mk 3 Golfs earned their reputation for fizzing away when a 9000 miler that's spent its entire life in an underground garage is needing some tlc on the back arches.

OK, Corolla & Civic are being scrapped through lack of interest, so if anyone wants any parts off of them, give me a shout.

Was going to say, that Civic's not really worth bothering with, it's a bland, common car in an undesirable spec (1.4i is base model, would originally have had steels and trims) and it needs a lot of work and man-hours going in to it. I see a lot of them on 100k+ for sale cheap, it's going to need a cambelt, probably spark plugs, etc etc. Uninspiring to drive too (one of those on 50k is among the few things I've driven), the Corolla would be a much better buy even on a Cat C.

Golf is nice and I hope gets a home, and the Fiesta will be a good workhorse for someone too, if it has back arches.

I was going to pass the same comment on the Civic - doesn't sound worth the effort/money.

The Corolla is something of a winner IMO, yes, dull to drive & look at but simple, reliable & generally speaking, you can't kill them with a stick so make great cheap hacks. At that price, who cares if it's a Cat C? If I were after a hack, I'd go for this one.

The Golf sounds good at 9K miles but my dad had one of a similar vintage & milage, nearly new as did a mate of his and they weren't very reliable at all and the finish went off quite quick too, a real disappointment after the first two marks. Plus they are a pretty naff & lifeless drive.

The Fiasco should be a pretty good bet too, only driven the petrol versions of this mark so don't know how good or otherwise the diesel lump is. I like the look of these for some reason too.

Both the Corolla & Civic are bland, unremarkable cars, but both make exceptional workhorses, & both are cheap with cheap road tax, so worth getting as commuter-shite you dont have to worry about getting damaged.

If you`ve got a rotten/crashed/spares Civic then you can have this one up & running for peanuts, & you know very well it`ll just keep going (I got my kids Mum a 95 1.5 Civic 1.5 LS auto 8 years ago, & to date its only needed a lambda, a battery & a back box). And its not THAT low spec with (working) air con, leccy windows, locking, mirrors, wood dash etc is it?!

However, no one seem to want the buggers, so they`ll be binned after I`ve taken the OSR door off the Civic for my kids Mums one, its even in colour!

Theres been no interest in the densil Fez, which is surprising with its 50-60mpg potential & cheap tax & insurance.

Theres been a few people enquire about the Golf, but nothing firm yet.
