Define a FTP? Laguna 2 spec

This is important, does a FTP involve stopping before the car repairs itself or not?

This morning's 22mile to work either involved two or three FTPs, the questionable one involved everything electrical in the car dying at 70mph, but recovering by the time it got down to 50mph & I'd just managed to get over to the LH lane. The other two took 10mins of WD40 & drying fuses before the electrics would work again.

If you're wondering the cause, it was the usual - it'd rained. I've now admitted defeat & duct taped the sunroof up to ensure less FTPs in future.

I know this, which is why I intend to only use it in the rain as I'm normally on a motorbike. Of course the bike is currently borked, so the car plays up. If I fix the bike the car will become reliable won't it?

Early 2000s Renaults don't work in the rain, they all do that Sir

My '97 Megané loved the rain water, I even managed to get water coming through the floor without running issues. The ECU had been referbished a year or two before I got it though.

I think with a laguna it only counts as FTP if you didn't get where you were going or were forced to use another car.

For example, it didn't FTP on me in the middle of weardale this afternoon because I fixed* it. Must change that damn crank sensor soon.

I love the ambitious way that sign has only a single digit.

My c5 did that three times in my 6 years of ownership. Put the fear of God into me ( or the car). Everything cut out completely and then came back again a second or two later. Only once did the computer flag up a fault - and that was "immobiliser fault". I sold it the same week!

I think the acronym "FTP" needs to be changed to "TPF" for French cars.

Très Peu Fiable = very unreliable.

Well it failed to even start today.

Put the key in & the red light on the dash goes solid red, that's all. I'm sure when it's happened before locking & unlocking the car with the fob sorted it, only problem there is it's refusing to lock when asked...

Going to have another go at finding the bloody control unit & drying it tonight, unless you lot have better ideas? (to get it going not how to set light to it).

Does it not work with the spare key either?

... I hope you have a spare key that is!

Red light is immobiliser light, which when permanently solid, iirc, means failure.

Not tried the spare key as it involves swapping the battery carrier over. Will try that later.

Bastid thing can't fail, it's got £60 of petrol in it!

Well, setting light to it would probably dry it out quite nicely...

Gah looks like it's proper fucked. Had the UCH out, dried it, cleaned all the dodgy contacts & no difference. I'd bet it's just a shit connection somewhere but buggered if I can find it.

Going to ignore it for a few days & see what happens

As we know it's UCH problems (probably) so last night I was trying to clean connections & dry it out. Still doesn't work, but it's much better condition now....

They look like this when you take them out

Then there are these fuses & relay hidden above them

Then like this when opened up to dry

Next game is strip out the fusebox under the bonnet as I've read about a few broken wires in there. Plus test all the little black relays as they seem to fail too.
