I thought the triangular one was for the MPi.

Could be wrong as SPi only became standard from 94, but I know the Si I had ( above) had the SPi and then later the SLi had the 1400 16v MPi which did admittedly go like a scalded cat.

Those late Metros look like fun,  I quite fancy one but Ms C does not.

Is everyone apart from Doc from BXP on here now?

Is Vanny on here in disguise then?

He may be the exception!

The Metro is indeed carb 'n' cat:

This is uber good, no electronics and a passive Cat. Mr Metro's stock is rising!

I've given it a clean, vac'd it out (came up luvverly) and emptied the rear arches of mud build-up and dried them, should keep the rot at bay while it's squirrelled away for a while.

In other news, the ZX's noisy Alt turned out to be the tensioner, on order. That's also been cleaned out and readied for service. Need to find a DIN stereo bezel for it, struggling!

I'm not gonna weigh in on that subject... Chris spent a wedge of yesterday digging valves out of a crusty head for my XU9J4...

Good man. Then instead of doing the sensible thing and telling people (with photos) on a shite car forum about it.....

It was a real hoot! First Metro I've driven in 15 years. Everything just feels "connected" on it, genuinely chuck able fun with a revvy little lump.

Once had a 1300 VDP Auto, dull as dishwater and later a 115 that despite having flat suspension did 70+ mpg.

I'm just outside Newquay, where you at DrJ?

I'm shit-slow at replying.

Plymouth, for my sins, so further than I expected. Was that Metro out near Launceston?

While the weather was dry and the local road to the jetwash wasn't covered in farmers shit, I gave the beast a proper scrub up top, underneath and inside.

Came up very nicely:

Before packing it away I thought it was worth checking it WAS actually saveable, it definitely needs a pair of outer sills. I

t's had some poor repairs where a tow bar used to be which will need to be redone but the rest of the underside (particularly around the subframe mounts) is sound.

There's the usual selection of holes:

Nothing particularly surprising.

However, badly done previous repairs that'll need cutting out are a PITA:

This one's quite nice:

DSC_4321_zpsjybmu33h.jpg

All in all, a couple of weekends of cutting & plating but by no means not worth doing. The body makes it worthwhile.

Speaking of the bodywork... as previously mentioned, it recently made it's way into the hands of a chav.

Said FUCKING IDIOT decided he/she would like a Ratmobile and went out of their way to strip all the paint off the n/s/f wing and let it rust (apart from some DC stickers around the arch). It looked FUCKING STUPID.

Anyways, it's only a wing and it's easily sorted for minimal £. But, as it's being packed away for several months/years* I thought I'd have a little play with some rust converter I recently bought following a lot of hype:

DSC_4315-1_zpsf2lqomri.jpg

This is now the wing in question:

DSC_4327_zpsi124hxpw.jpg

Half is painted with that purple shit, just as was.

On the left I sanded out a proper clean strip of tin, coating part of it with the purple shit.

Now i'll just leave it and check back whenever there's any change to any of the surfaces.

I'm not a fan of converters, I'd prefer to strip out completely, but it's there so I might as well!

You'll be happy to hear she is mechanically 100%, everything is completely spot on, I even left if running for 2 hours YES, HOURS! and it didn't shit it's guts out. (Mind you, I've had 4 or 5 K's in the past and only one of those had OMGHGF, that was a K16).

Today saw the first Jaguar related moment of frustration since ownership.

One of the coils decided it's number was up. But, fortunately as there's 6 of the fuckers it didn't end in an FTP, just a slightly power lacking return journey.

Two coils £18 on order. Laid up for a few days.

Either there's lots of repetition or there's a Cornwall massive going on? Keep it up, I used to live down there and it's good to hear all the old landmarks mentioned. Plenty of shite to be had too!

Very little has happened recently, The Metro is still packed away, the Transit is awaiting welding and a leaf change for MOT.

The Jag has been faultless, only lifted the bonnet to do the screenwash and check the oil. Now with added working Air-Con!

The Kalos is still sat here waiting for an MOT before I punt it on and the ZX is just ZX awesomeness.

Only significant change is I finally got the BX on the road:

Jaggy had his face ripped off ready for some shiny new panels and a fairly decent 308 face lift. .. Can't believe how heavy a bloody door can be, no wonder it only does 20 to the gallon!

2 rust free wings, complete door, Full headlamps, rear Daimler clusters, CD changer, mudflaps, a bargain at £150, just gotta throw some paint on!

nah dont paint- this is autoshite after all

Today I've rubbed down the inner visible surfaces of the door and rattle canned them in the nearest shade of blue I could lay my hands on, and lacquered it up so i can fit it.

The doors loom was swapped and the door card fitted with only some very minor mod needed (door was from a later X308). Door on, wings on, jobbed.

I'll paint them in situ when the proper paint arrives and add the chrome trim. I'll do the lights etc at the same time.

I'm still trying to get over the £20 car.  It's a whole car.  These days just a door can cost £40 off any car and that one has 2 doors!  You can't fail to win with that.

I bought a Satria for £25 a month or so back, sold the bonnet & wing for £40 and a headlamp for £20, plus all the bits I've harvested for the truck, I'm pretty happy!

Oh dear, my right index finger just bought this, I'll be having a word with it later...

Cheap, recently expired MOT and not retested. Very clean history.

I don't need it, got enough damn cars! But...

Its a ragtop - and its nearly Summer.

Excellent choice.

Yep, top buyage there, it's like a mini lottery, it could sweep through an MOT without a hint of trouble, or it could make you cry!

First inspection, needs rear pads, slight exhaust blow sorted and set of tyres.

Electrics are possessed, so roof and windows are DOA.

Other than that, seems Ok, certainly drives willingly with no knocks.

Nice pic oflovely convertible on a rainy day, possessed electrics fail in up position ( clever demons ).

In lieu of the missus deciding we want to keep the Cabby, I've now punted the Metro on to a very eager mate who's gonna be using it as his first lowcost foray into classic spannering.

Cons: I quite liked it.

Pros: Made profit. It's already in storage in his garage so doesn't need moving. He's gonna pay me to do the welding over the winter and I'm gonna teach him some skillz.

Garage is full again. Bah!

ZX went for MOT today, sailed through with my massive prep of one handbrake cable. 178k and going strong!

306 cabby had a proper inspection, tis just tyres, discs & pads and an exhaust fracture. All in hand.

Stumbled accross a cabby in a local scrappy, they only want a pony for the very good roof and all its ancillaries (yeah, I know, a cheap scrappy), so I'll just get the lot to try and sort the DOA roof. The windows do now work, usual slow rears and fractured cables in the drivers door to be sorted.

Should be OTR in a couple of weeks.

Picked up the good roof from the scrappy, unfortunately the car is a year newer than mine so the pump and electrics are Ph3 and not compatible. :( £25 ! :)

I did manage to stumble accross the cause of my roof not working and fixed piss easy. Over a year the previous owner's have been opening it manually.

Found out another reason they didn't MOT it, bald tyres and NO FUCKING LOCKING WHEEL NUT KEY. Sorted in 5 mins tho.
