I need to steal a Scirocco,advice sought?

Well not really..... :-D  I left a throwaway but reasonable offer with a widow on a 91 Scirocco that I don't want or need but somehow It seems to have been accepted, only issue is that it has 2 keys neither of which seem to work the ignition and I need to get it mobile to get it trucked back to my place to start the renovation and serious vulgarisation. The barrel is either jammed or , as I suspect, the ignition key has been lost.

So....how do I overcome this obstacle in terms of the steering lock, I'm happy enough to cause some damage to the barrel internals and source a replacement one with key but have never come across this issue before and lived a clean and law abiding teenage life , so ....over to the autoshite massive and ,if preferred, talk to me by PM.

12v cordless drill and then drill the two shear bolts out of the ignition barrel mount on the column.

Does the key fit in the barrel? Obvious point, but wiggle the steering as you attempt to turn the key. Also, if it is the wrong key, have you searched the car? Under the seat, owners manual etc. Someone may have stashed a spare set somewhere.

Sitting in the passenger seat with your foot jammed in the steering wheel (pushing towards the drivers door) has worked for me before to snap a steering lock off.

Tried that and no sign of a key stashed, 2 on the ring so i'm assuming one is the right one . I don't want to hassle the lady too much given the circumstances.

what are the keys looking like?? all worn n corners dull?? overtime 'keys in n out' of the ignition grind the key n swarf build up in the barrel- jamming up the brass tabs that make up the lock barrel...

you could try to first off spray some freeing oil/rustols/wd40, n then grease spray- into the ignition n smearing the key in grease n stabbing it in n out while attempting to turn... takes ages, this approach tho.

they key might be so worn down it will no longer engage the brass tabs to turn the ignition; if this is the case, getting a sharply cut copy via an old school car key cutting place might work - a new one might be 'too sharp' - then its a case of dullin the edges with sandpaper...

these siroccos often have a lockable fuel cap, n lockable glovebox; but these are small keys that look like 'locker keys'...

...if all else fails you could disconnect the colum, if you are a-framing/putting it onto a truck...

I broke a scrocco a few years back, n last time I looked, had a barrel/key n steerin lock in a box - postage from this end will be expensive - recently sent some car mags to another member on here, n anything over 2kg is crazy for a parcel....

It sounds more like a buggered barrel than the wrong key, given that these era VWs can be started with a lolly stick

Both the VW keys are original and pretty worn , I tried a little bit of WD but no joy, I wasn't really interested in buying the car as it was a favour to give her some idea of value but seem's I might as well take it on as there maybe a wee profit in it.

Tell me about Irish postage mate I have family in Kildare who insist on goodies being sent over regularly that costs a fortune !

I had a different problem trying to steal my own Scirocco.

Anyhow, if you remove the barrell you should find a switch that you can turn with a screwdriver that will start the car I think.

if its a Gti/injection sirocco - the 100mm driveshafts are worth quite a bit to mk1 golf 'putting big engine plus later gearbox in' conversion contingent...

Fuck it's got one of those steering locks on it too  :-D hope that locks not fucked too, I'm going to give the barrel some welly and douse with lube, the probability of having the door key and ignition on separate rings is highly unlikely so i'm thinking barrel is dry/stuck as the car has sat for months since the owners sad demise

check there isn't half a key already in the barrel as they have a tendency to break...if not pointy chisel on the snap off bolts and iirc once barrel is off its just a screwdriver in the slot...

Don't fuck it up i might buy it , that'll be my 6th  , I like 'em  :-D  GT2 isn't the most desirable but they're ok.  Didn't you post a pic yesterday ,I cant find it...

Call a mobile locksmith? That might cost less in the long run.
